I am curious if any folks on CR have heard of the Seven Rays? If so, what is your experience, opinion, or findings ... if you happen to have evaluated yourself (or had someone do this)?

I was trying to figure out a way to explain the Rays if folks are unfamiliar, but the closest thing I could find to synopses stretches easily in volumes! The topic, and study, has interested me for many years, so maybe I'll say a few words ... to hopefully illustrate that the Rays may be better known than some of us realize.

To quote Alice Bailey, from Esoteric Psychology:
"A ray is but a name for a particular force or type of energy, with the emphasis upon the quality which that force exhibits and not upon the form aspect which it creates. This is a true definition of a ray." (Vol. I, p.315)
And what I think she's saying here is that Rays are a definite, objective (as well as subjective) energy ... rather than any of the forms they may take, or become identified with. Broadly speaking, they are considered as energy that affects all forms, and all life, in all the worlds of human (and other) manifestation.

Also, even if we speak of one or another Ray Energy as predominating in our makeup (whether psychological, or spiritual, emotional, or physical), we must consider that all are actually present, just in differing degrees, with one that predominates in each of these cases.

Another helpful quote: "... esoterically, these seven rays are the sevenfold expressions of the Cosmic Christ" (ibid, p.119) What this means is that metaphysically speaking, every human soul emanates - or goes forth into the world - upon one of these spiritual rays, and returns upon it. In this sense, each Ray is an expression of Divinity (or the ONE), similar to the Christian Trinity, the Hindu Trinity, or the Seven Sephiroth of Kabbalah.

Finally, to at least list the Rays, I borrow again from the terminology of Alice Bailey:

Ray I: The Ray of Will and Power
Ray II: The Ray of Love-Wisdom
Ray III: The Ray of Active Intelligence and Adaptability
(also called The Ray of Creative Intelligence)
Ray IV: The Ray of Harmony through Conflict
(also called The Ray of Harmony, Beauty and Art)
Ray V: The Ray of Concrete Knowledge or Science
Ray VI: The Ray of Devotion and (Abstract) Idealism
Ray VII: The Ray of Ceremonial Order or Magic
This is as simple a presentation as I can manage, and probably generates a host of questions ... but that's part of why I posted. I'm hoping that folks have either heard of the Rays already, and have an interest ... or perhaps recognize something familiar, and can relate. :)

Fortunately, there is an excellent online work (fairly short) by the author Geoffrey Hodson, called The Seven Human Temperaments ... about the Rays. If folks would like to read further, or seek clarification, I would refer you to this book.

Thanks ....

I've heard about Rays before although from what I remember they were described in terms of colours instead of just numbers with associations attached to them.

They're really just another attempt to create a classification system. Some like using the classical elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and often a fifth element of Spirit.) Others prefer to use astrological categories such as the twelve signs. The chakra system has a lot of proponents too. And of course there is the Qabala tradition in its various manifestations which revolves around the Tree of Life (sephiroth) classification scheme.

The Rays classification scheme is certainly an interesting one and I'm sure it's helpful for those who immerse themselves in that philosophical system. But there are others too for those who prefer other ways of describing the universe.

Oh, and those who are interested in learning more about Alice Bailey's work might enjoy reading the Wikipedia entry on her as it lists her publications and gives a good summary of her life and work.

She was building on H. P. Blavatsky's system Theosophy so it would also be worthwhile reading up on her and her group too. There's a lot available in print as well as on the internet. Many libraries carry Blavatsky's key books at the very least.

Thanks, Ben, for listing these many connections ...

and thanks for referencing Wiki as well. I hadn't even thought to look there!

cheers,

Chakras were the first thing that came to mind when I heard about rays, which I know nothing more about than what taijasi has presented. The parallels of colors and number (7) may be arbitrary, but I wonder if there are any connections between the two systems, or if anyone has created any?

Some correspondences from Esoteric Psychology II (p.429):

The Relation of the Rays to the Centers
1. Head Center - Ray of Will or Power. First Ray.
2. The Ajna Center - Ray of Concrete Knowledge. Fifth Ray.
3. The Throat Center - Ray of Active Intelligence. Third Ray.

4. The Heart Center - Ray of Love-Wisdom. Second Ray.

5. The Solar Plexus - Ray of Devotion. Sixth Ray.

6. The Sacral Center - Ray of Ceremonial Magic. Seventh Ray.

7. Base of Spine - Ray of Harmony. Fourth Ray.

Also from Esoteric Psychology, Vol I (pp.127-129):
Every unit of the human race is on some one of the seven rays; therefore some one color predominates, and some one tone sounds forth; infinite are the gradations and many the shades of color and tone. Each ray has its subsidiary rays which it dominates, acting as the synthetic ray. These seven rays are linked with the colors of the spectrum. There are the rays of red, blue, yellow, orange, green and violet. There is the ray that synthesizes them all, that of indigo. There are the three major rays - red, blue and yellow - and the four subsidiary colors which ... find their correspondence in the [Soul and personality]. The Logos [Incarnating Divine Being] of our system is concentrating on the love or blue aspect.

This - as the synthesis - manifests as indigo. This matter of the rays and their colors is confusing to the neophyte. I can but indicate some thoughts, and in the accumulation of suggestion light may eventually come.

Of the colors, red, blue and yellow are primary and irreducible. They are the colors of the major rays.
a. Will or Power - Red
b. Love-Wisdom - Blue
c. Active Intelligence - Yellow
We have then the subsidiary rays:
d. Orange.
e. Green.
f. Violet.
and the synthesizing ray, Indigo.
It might be helpful to mention that this author probably means by "synthesizing ray," in this case - the Fourth Ray, of Harmony through Conflict, which is the Ray of Humanity as a whole. Orange, Green, and Violet then, correspond to Rays Five, Six, and Seven, respectively.

One way that this rings true for me, is that the glow of the Holy Aura, patina, or Shekinah - is considered as Golden, or most definitely more yellow, than orange. And Ray 5 (orange) is the lower, concrete mind ... whereas Ray 3 (yellow) is Divine Mind, or Spiritual Intellect. Also, violet has long been associated with the 7th Ray, of Ceremonial Order.

cheers ...

Alice Bailey, the author taijasi referenced in the first post, was involved in Theosophy. Theosophy was an attempt by H.P. Blavatsky and her associates to bring together religious philosophy (not just one religion either but all of them) and science into a harmonious whole. Blavatsky was particularly interested in Hindu and Buddhist teachings so she drew heavily from them in putting together Theosophy.

And since the chakra system is part of Indian philosophy it's not surprising then that it would come into Theosophy, and also into descendants of Theosophy such as Alice Bailey's work.

Speaking of Theosophy, Blavatsky moved to India for a time and ran the Theosophical movement from there. Theosophy though is mostly found among Europeans (and Americans) though.

All correct! Thanks again, Ben!

I think that for me, the greatest corroboration, other than personal experience, of the contributions of HPB and Alice Bailey, comes from two sources. One is the proverbial "Ye shall know them by their fruits." In this sense, we must bear in mind that - however imperfect and fraught with obstacles - both of these women were champions for the cause of Unity amongst science, philosophy, and all world religions, as Ben points out. What they both wished to see established, was Universal Brotherhood, and in my way of thinking, no nobler goal exists.

But a second way to frame their contributions, and check their validity, is by considering that the teachings regarding Rays, and the subtle constitution of man (concerning chakras, the various layers of the aura, the Rules for White Magic, and many subjects that fit under the category of an Esoteric Astrology or Esoteric Metaphyscis) ... many such teachings have been demonstrated as accurate by contributors from both East and West since the 19th Century and early 20th Century. Thus, not only are Theosophical teachings rooted in ancient traditions, but to my mind, they are a natural progression, and a link in undying revelation.

That such revelation continues through many vehicles today, all spiritually viable and valid, is perhaps one of the few things - of which I am absolutely certain! ;) Either that, or a lifetime of dreams (to which probably every one of us could lay claim) - become suddenly, non-valid! :p

Anyway, I started this thread to see if folks had heard of the 7 Rays, and I'm glad to see that people have, or are familiar with the 7-chakra system (although I know some schools of thought emphasize a different number). Certainly the correspondences exist, even down to days of the week. And subtler connections, such as Ben points out regarding the Kabbalah, also exist.

On other threads I have probably mentioned the Hindu Prajapatis, or Seven Rishis (Mind-Born Sons of Brahma), the Buddhist Dhyan Chohans, the Zoroastrian Amshaspands, the Kabbalistic Seven & Ten Sephiroth, Christianity's Seven Angels before the Throne of God (Book of Revelation), or even the Seven Clans (and Seven-pointed Star) of the Native American Cherokees. That there is a connection and parallel between all of these, should be appparent (and Occam's Razor held off long enough to study the reason for the correspondences). My own belief is that it is due to the Ray Energies behind all of manifestation.

For example, several esoteric sources point to Ursa Major, the `Great Bear' constellation (`Big Dipper'), as the source of The Seven Cosmic Rays for our Galaxy. Note that there are seven stars in this constellation. The Pleiades (also sevenfold) are looked to for the source of material existence - of manifestation itself (rather than the Will-to-Manifest, or Spirit Aspect, which the Great Bear provides). These two constellations, along with the star Sirius (and several other prominent constellations) are said not just to condition, but to actually give birth to everything that we know of as "Existence" (including our very Sun, the planets, and every last atom of our Solar System). [The ancient Egyptian Initiates knew this, and the Giza Plateau mirrors the Heavens - with the Nile as the Milky Way itself, and the Giza Pyramids as the 3 belt stars of Orion.]

Some of these are profound statements, impossible of confirmation or denial at this point, although astronomers may one day be able to help us. At any rate, our Solar System is said to be found upon the 2nd Cosmic Ray (Love-Wisdom), and this is the only one of the stars of Ursa Major that directly affects us. The remaining 6 Rays become "filtered" via our own Sun, such that the Seven Rays which we know are all actually sub-rays of the 2nd Ray. This tells us, first, that the very simple statement, "God is Love," may actually bear a significant esoteric Truth (for it is superficially obvious and a tautology) ... and two, that perhaps if we ever meet beings from another Solar System, say a fourth-Ray Star (4th Cosmic Ray), we would probably need to toss aside quite a few preconceptions about how such beings would act. Quite likely, however, they would be beautiful beyond imagining, and would demonstrate Harmony as the people of this planet have never even thought possible. :) If only they would come - now! Oh wait ... ;)

There is much practical value to studying the Rays, and although I tend to wax philosophical, or dive into esoteric matters ... the usefulness of the Rays for my path of study and service - has been considerable. By coming to understand which rays influence one's etheric, astral, and mental bodies, a suitable meditation technique can be learned. By knowing which ray primarily influences one's personality, the work of integration can carry forward, and this makes one a strong thinker, and enables empowerment to achieve one's life objectives. But most useful of all, to ascertain the Ray of the Soul ... leads to an understanding of the very Purpose for one's incarnation (and for all of them), since the Soul Ray does not vary between lives. It shows us upon which stream of Divine energy we have issued forth from the heart of God, and upon which stream (the same) we may return. Thus there are Seven types of `Prodigal,' to an esotericist, not just one (and not just metaphorically).

Besides meditative techniques, there are books which provide Ray Methods of Healing, such as the book by this exact name, authored by Zachary Landsdowne. It is available from Amazon.com, although all I see at the moment are used copies. Many, many other such works exist, focusing on healing, or in many cases a more practical psychological approach to the Rays than is taught in the Alice Bailey works. I encourage folks to investigate the subject, if such an approach interests you. Roberto Assagioli, for example, did just that in the mid-twentieth century.

Namaskar, and Blessed Be,

andrew

Taijasi,

Thanks for the prolific and infomative post. As always, your thoughts are fresh and enlightening to me.

I always enjoy a good philosophical waxing. :p:eek:;) Wait, that sounds kinda dirty...

Andrew, do you have any links that you can post (preferably) or books that you can recommend (secondarily preferable) that would give some guidance on "coming to understand which rays influence one's etheric, astral, and mental bodies?" It seems like this could be a fun concept to work with.

Almost sounds as if you expect fourth Ray beings or energies to interact with this planet sometime in the future. Or sooner. Or perhaps I am reading something into your words. Eh...

Pathless,

Hmmm ... there have been some monumental contributions in this field over the years, including Michael Robbins' lengthy work, Tapestry of the Gods. Quite frankly, I would rather take on the Secret Doctrine or Cosmic Fire (two of the most abstruse esoteric treatises ever!) than Robbin's work. :p That's not meant to suggest it isn't helpful, just long! Fortunately, it's online. I recommend the first 200 pages or so of Vol. I :)eek: ) for general information ... then pp. 353-531 for info regarding the Soul, personality, and three personality vehicles. The 600 page 2nd volume gives examples of all possible Soul & personality combinations. This is really if you have lots of time on your hands ...

But if you're like me, you'd rather get the "meat" of the matter (an icky thing for a vegetarian to say!), so perhaps I could offer some pointers. Having had the privilege of excellent teachers, I learned a few shortcuts regarding the three personality vehicles and the Rays:

 1. The mind (mental body) is usually on Ray 1, Ray 4, or Ray 5 ... although it could rarely be Ray 3, or possibly others, such as 7. The Buddha had a 6th Ray mind, which is said to be very rare.
 2. The emotions (astral body) are usually either Ray 2 or Ray 6.
 3. The physical body is often Ray 1, Ray 3, or Ray 7.
Since most of us at CR are probably either integrated personalities ... or somewhere well into this process, we should also consider very carefully that the personality ray can be any one of the 7 Rays, and it synthesizes the ray energies of the three personality vehicles. Its influence could easily be confused for the mind or emotions, until we learn to better distinguish.

Another common mistake is to believe that we have absolutely determined the Ray of the Soul. While I recognize that most Buddhists disregard the notion of an individual soul per se, it might be considered that the skandhas are more equivalent here to the personality ... and "Buddha Nature itself" (so to speak) would also be conditioned by a Ray. Certainly the Ray of the Buddha and Christ per se is the 2nd (Love-Wisdom), yet for each of us ... we might say that the emanation of Buddha Nature is itself conditioned by one of the Seven Rays. A very simple, yet accurate description, of the entire goal of the esoteric path - would be the subordination of the personality, conditioned as it is by a sub-ray of the Soul Ray ... to the Will of the Soul - which is accomplished by allowing the Soul Ray to dominate. Not an easy task for the strong thinker, or the "rich man" of Christ's parable (rich meaning strong personality, strong ego).

Thus, determining the Soul Ray is what esotericists consider of prime importance, since this provides the greatest assistance in helping work towards one's spritual goals. The personality ray and other rays are of secondary importance, but also useful in choosing a meditation, in healing techniques, and in helping determine the best learning/teaching methods. It's also helpful as we round out our personality ... and it is emphasized that Masters are Masters of all the Rays, not just one (even though one predominates).

Getting back to the pointers above regarding the mind, emotions and physical body ... here's a bit more about what each of those might look like:
 • Ray 1 Mind - very strong thinker, always in terms of the whole, seeing the big picture ... can sometimes dominate others
 • Ray 4 Mind - similar to Ray 1, but with an artistic inclination, understands things in terms of harmony, with considerable psychological insight
 • Ray 5 Mind - concrete science, predisposes one to think in this fashion ... and this is the Ray of mind per se - the most typical
 • Ray 2 Emotions - very inclusive, easily capable of a love that expands and broadens, rather than focusing via devotion
 • Ray 6 Emotions - very devoted and idealistic *emotionally*, even if practical or strong-willed in other regards ... love through devotion and intensity, rather than a broad inclusiveness
 • Ray 1 Body - strong, athletic body, yet often bulky, as typified by the marine, many members of the police forces, etc.
 • Ray 3 Body - more flexible and balanced body, seldom thin or frail
 • Ray 7 Body - can still be athletic, but usually thin, wiry, often tall, often frail
Now consider that as the personality shows its influence, sympathetic ray energies often become accentuated, for example ... my 4th ray personality resonates with my 2nd ray astral body. This can be good (amplification, as it were), but has its own consquences (intensity of emotion, and the overshadowing theme of 4th-ray conflict ... although eventually leading to harmony). For me, it's probably even more challenging because of a 6th Ray Soul, as I struggle to develop the more Aquarian 2nd Ray tendencies. The 6th Ray has been in prominence all during Pisces, and accounts for the tremendous emphasis on devotional forms of religion, Christianity being the example par excellence. The fanatic, the martyr, the zealot ... such individuals are often 6th-Ray Souls, or at least have a strong 6th ray presence in the makeup. As Aquarius comes in, the 7th Ray is swinging into power, meaning that group activity is beginning to demonstrate in all spheres of human conduct (the 7th Ray is that of organization). As these Rays clash (in terms of Humanity's experience of their effects), religious conflicts (6!) are accentuated ... until the old order gives way to the new. 6th-Ray fanaticism must yield to the more inclusive 2nd-Ray Love-Wisdom, which is in concert with the Aquarian 7th-Ray energy of order. Wow, what am I saying? I know nothing about astrology ....

One additional tabulation that might be helpful, concern Ray Methods of Teaching Truth. Another, long list of tabulations ... is here, but don't get overwhelmed! (many of those may not be useful, yet) From this same site there is a list of articles, by esoteric students ... some of which may be useful (such as the short one by Brad Berg, and a long article on the Rays of Classical Greek Deities). The article on The Seven Faces of Man is particularly interesting, although I'm not sure what to make of it. Definitely worth looking at. Perhaps also the article on the Seven Rays and the Life Cycle.

I wish I had some useful formulas, but the only ones I've found make use of the horoscope (birth times), and I must say, I'm dubious. Of course, not having my own birth info (adoptee here, sealed records) probably doesn't help. But still, I would think the formulas are much more difficult than the simple charts I've found on the 'Net. Another word of caution would be to not confuse the Ray system with enneagram, since the latter focuses on nine types/energies, rather than seven. They may be compatible, but I think I'd just get confused.

The single best reference I've found, is the online work by Geoffrey Hodson entitled, The Seven Human Temperaments, as mentioned in my first post. Do give it a look, because the most accurate source or determiner of Ray energies, after learning, will be you. The challenge will come in discerning where the ray energy is coming through, but knowing the various characteristics, virtues, vices, and qualities for each of the rays is the key.

If you have questions and don't mind posting them here, I'd be happy to try and help, or you can private message me.

Mmm, the latter. I think ET has always been here, but's that's kind of Pandora's Box ... not sure what I could say, except that - since we've discovered atomic energy, ET has taken considerable notice. I mean that 99.9% in the positive, and in the sense that their concern is reflected by offering as much assistance as karmically allowable ... plus safe observation. ET isn't necessary to play "policeman," since that role is completely covered by Nirmanakayas, the Lipika Lords (Systemic Lords of Karma, and their earthly reflection) ... and various other Great spiritual entities resident to our Solar and Planetary System. But our interactions with ETs forms part of the delicate, subtle, and as yet but-little-understood web of Life ... which unites our Solar System with a polar opposite, as well as with 6 others (which together form the 7 chakras in a being About Whom Naught May Be Said). And that's just scratching the surface ... but I'm afraid my crystal ball is a bit murky today. :p

Of late I have finally had to stop fence-sitting and consider that the Pleiadians have actually been here for millions of years. Buddhistically, they are arhats - or beyond, yet esoterically, they are our very Souls, or Buddha nature. Amazing, and vastly oversimplified ... yet probably close enough. "Greys," as I increasingly seem to be finding out, are probably not "ET" at all, but rather ... the necessary biological robot equivalent which gets created in the physical world, as subtler beings manifest in our Solar System, upon our very unique little planet. People think that's absurd (and God knows why) ... but consider, the HOST of spiritual energies, influences, and karmic factors that must obviously be taken into consideration for such interaction (between any ETs and us) to take place, are mind-boggling! Arrogant ol' earth people would just hop into a saucer and zap out into space, crashing quite literally into the first inhabited planet we found ... not realizing in our ignorance what a muck-up that would be. Fortunately, safeguards exist to prevent this, and perhaps we should start by first exploring the other inhabited planets of this system ... all of them! Problem is, not knowing where/how to look. :(

But consider Sirians - vast cosmic beings (including the Cosmic Christ - which is to earth's Christ, what Christ is to a quark). An Avatar from Sirius was present in our system only once - for the kickoff. The Tibetan Master says this:
Only once has such a Being visited our system, in connection with the appearance in time and space of the five mind-born Sons of Brahma [5 Dhyani Buddhas]. The effect of such a visit as that of the Avatar from Sirius is seen as the sumtotal of civilization and culture, viewing these from the standpoint of the entire system and in one flash of time. (Treatise on Cosmic Fire, p.724) - emphasis added
Dayum! It is also said, that such entities approximated the human stage of evolution, literally thousands of Mahamanvantaras ago ... or in other words, in a Solar System many thousands of systems ago (in time) ... since the existence of ours. I do not think, upon considering statements as profound as this in the Ageless Wisdom Teachings, that any of us really has the foggiest notion of what words like G-d mean (lol), yet we all humor each other just for sh*ts and grins. Okay, we get bold and equate G-d with Good, and the way I figure it, that's close enough!

As for ET encounters, remember the movie Close ones of the Third Kind? Well I have good reason to believe that that movie is probably based on a real event that occurred at Hollomon Air Force Base (I think) ... back in the 70s. I can't say if such beings might be 4th-ray or not, but I'd venture a guess that they're more likely 5th. However, if their native realm or plane of existence is subtler than ours, then the biological, robotlike greys which they project (for communication's sake) may very well be misleading. I'm looking more into this, but the whole topic is very glamorous and is only recently beginning to be taken seriously. Admittedly, accurate information is challenging to find, but the most insight is often gained from the Hermetic Axiom: `As above, so below.' :)

cheers,

andrew

A rather long post on the Seven Rays, from a bit of a Christian perspective, which I wrote for another thread, but which properly belongs here:

ray2card_jpg.jpgray3card_jpg.jpgray4card_jpg.jpgray5card_jpg.jpgray6card_jpg.jpg

(Artwork is Bruce Lyon's, symbolizing Rays 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 ... follow link for 1 & 7 )

There's a perfect example (a reflection, as it were) in the world of ordinary science ... quite beautiful, actually:

We know there is but One, White Light. And it is one, and whole, and complete, and from the perspective of the seven colors - it is their perfect synthesis. But as we both know, the White Light is whole unto itself, and does not depend on its subsidiary, or component colors, for being whole. Rather, it just is!

Now science may provide various explanations, and we must not forget - that the visible spectrum of light is just the tiniest portion of the vast electromagnetic spectrum. Warmer than red, is infrared, or heat energy - with radio being the slowest frequency, and greatest wavelengths. On the other end of visible light, is ultraviolet, and although the temperature is cooler, it is a faster vibration, with a shorter wavelength. Beyond UV, there is X-Ray, and Gamma radiation, and we're not sure just how fast the vibrations actually get! And although this is pure science, Who is the author - of the electromagnetic spectrum itself? ;) But of course! :)

And so what we have is the earthly reflection (one among zillions, yet one which is particularly important to all lifeforms upon the planet) - of a Heavenly Truth ... again, as a belief ...

We know that white light, upon entering a prism, is divided into Seven colors ... ROYGBIV, red-orange-yellow-green-blue-indigo-violet. And there is a correspondence with the Seven Rays, as these colors could be considered one of many, many outward symbols - except that they are more than symbolic, they are true correspondences (or results!). The evidence, as it were - is one way to look at it.

Anyway, no color is better than the other, or more important, although - aha, and here's the kicker ... yes, there are three primary colors, red, green, and blue. These three can be variously mixed to produce the four subsidiary colors, but certainly, there is a correspondence here to the Christian Trinity - in a philosphical sense. The primary colors also match the Hindu Trimurti, Siva-Vishnu-Brahma, as well as the Egyptian Osiris-Horus-Isis, and a few dozen other handy spiritual trinities.

Anyway, if you glance at the album cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, there you have it. The nature of life upon earth, is like the effect of a prism. God's loving energy reaches us as the one white Light, split into Seven Rays. And esoterically, they are universally present, always, everywhere. Every single atom in Cosmos, is affected by all seven Rays. And thus all forms are affected, all entities, in every world ... spiritual and material, from the beginning of time to the very end!

The way in which the Rays reach us, as the chart in my earlier post shows ... is this: From God the Three-In-ONE, or the Godhead/Absolute, emanate the Trinity. These show up in Christian teachings as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And this trinity also exists in every spiritual tradition. That's not why it exists, rather, vice versa.

The Trinity, is like the three primary colors which white light is split into. If combined, that again form the One, the original White Light. But that would be a very short journey indeed, and the prodigal would have hardly had time to get down the street! ;) So God points his finger (see William Blake's well-known painting, the Ancient of Days) ... down, into greater distinction, still the Divine impulse ... and the three colors blend individually, becoming an additional four colors, to make the prism's Seven.

Thus, God Rays forth His very Life, His very Love, and the very Wisdom itself which is God, and which is of God. These Seven Rays, just as the colors of the visible spectrum, are all equally important, and if combined, there is the original white light ... yet even the primary three, if combined, will yield the same. This is certainly interesting, even from a purely physical perspective, but esoterically, it reveals a profound truth. It is the relationship of the four Rays of Attribute to the Three Rays of Aspect. But this has nothing to do with "position," it simply means that the Divine Trinity must somehow recombine itself into additional variations ... if there is to be any more diversity. And diversity there is, since not only do we have 7 prismatic colors, but even a computer monitor displays literally millions of various hues, shades, and saturations. This, is like the multiplicity of the world we live in. And it is necessary, and good.

So the Prodigal has gone forth, for a longer walk, because just down the street is hardly far enough to experience the wonder of God's Creation. Until a Soul has garnered its needed experience, esotericists regard additional incarnations as the greatest Gift a loving God could possibly bestow upon us! It is the Blessing, of allowing us to walk a bit longer in the wide world around us. This world, too, is God's Creation, after all.

Thus, from within the Father's House, where all Souls originate upon their earthly journey ... the command is given, Go Forth, and garner experience. Perfect Thyself. We, the Prodigal, "went out" - because of God's love, and because we needed to experience life in the world - in order to understand the fullness of God's Creation, and so that we would have a better developed perspective from which to understand the true meaning, the true Purpose, and the true nature - of God (and of ourselves) ... :)

We came forth, not separately, and not individually, but rather as Groups, there being Seven distinct Ray-groupings, and these are mentioned in the Book of Revelation as the Seven Spirits before the [One] Throne. No Ray is more important than another, although Rays 4, 5, 6 & 7 are technically subsidiary to the 3rd Ray.

... the idea is that we could almost view these Ray energies as streams of Divine Life and Love, carrying us gently into the worlds of form and material living. They influence us, affect us, and predispose us, both spiritually and psychologically ... as well as in our very bodies.

A different ray is said to affect one's body, one's emotions, and one's mind. These three are synthesized by a personality ray, which can be any one of the Seven. We learn to attune ourself to the Ray of the Soul ... of our more spiritual being. We cannot simply ignore the other rays that affect us, so always it is a question of learning to balance energies, within & between our mind/emotions/body, yet also between the personality and the Soul. A person on the 5th Soul Ray for example, while driven by their very Purpose to think as a scientist, and approach God through science, might have a struggle if the personality ray is Ray 4, the artistic Ray. One's natural abilities, and inclinations - will show up in a desire to express things artistically, whether via music, the performing arts, or via painting, writing, etc. Yet the very essence of one's being, in this case, will be the Divine Scientist.

S/he who does not think God is a Scientist ... hasn't actually really thought very much about God, imo. God is an artist, a poet, a scientist, a philosopher, the Divine Politician (!), a diplomat, and also surely the greatest Economist that once has ever imagined. Efficiency as we would but dream! Not a sparrow falls ...

And certainly God is also the greatest lover, and the greatest Teacher, Whom and which any of us will ever know! And that is the usefulness of the Rays ... to help us understand more about the very Purpose for which God created us, and sent us forth, and in which of the Divine manners of approach ... He is calling us back to Him. He who answers that it is through a life of religious devotion, and contemplation, and praise & worship .. that we should & shall approach God, has spoken worlds to the esotericist. One does not hastily draw conclusions, but clearly, such a person is demonstrating the characteristics and qualities ... of the 6th Ray, which is Devotion and Idealism (often, but not always, showing up via religion).

And this might mean that a person's emotions (or astral body) is conditioned by the 6th Ray. That would make sense. But it is equally possible, that the person's entire personality is upon the 6th Ray, this might indicate even stronger 6th-Ray tendency, and approach to life (and God). If the personality Ray and the emotional ray are both 6th, Wow! Double-whammy, and we're getting into zealot territory. The rays are good, and 100% positive unto themselves, of course - being Divine Emanations. But we are not as yet perfect, or Adept at directing, and wisely using, life's (God's) energies. And thus, too much "6" may mean that part of our unique life's challenge will be to wrestle with a balanced approach. Perhaps the leavening influence of a 5th-ray mind, would help such a person. That is the ray of science, and of the mind per se, and so that person would be able, if s/he chose, to think quite clearly ... upon rational, analytical terms, with a firm grasp of logic. That's if, s/he could practice objectivity, and not become swept with emotion (ray 6 corresponds more so to the emotions, just as ray 5 corresponds to lower mind).

All of this must be put into context, however, because the various rays of our personality are not the only rays that affect us. Our Soul is also found upon one of the Seven Rays, and for esotericists, it is the Soul which serves as the Christ principle, or the bridge we cross on our way (back) to God. And this may be a bridge of the nature of any of the Seven Rays, though we are told that Ray 1 Souls are rare, since they would be too powerful for our planet at this time!

So much more could be said regarding different Ray combinations in an individual, but as a final example, consider the person with dual ray 6, and a ray 5 mind. Now suppose, that this person find himself on the 7th Soul Ray. That might mean, that as this person learns to balance the natural predisposition to devotion, idealism, and even fanaticism ... with a more level-headed, analytical insight ... the very purpose for this person's existence (and the way back to God) will become revealed - as intimately involving Order, and Organization, and perhaps also Ritual, or Ceremonial. This might prompt such an individual, if formerly a religious devotee (perhaps a student of Sai Baba, or an adherent of radical Islam) ... to investigate Baha'i, or Freemasonry, or even the idea of Service Entrepreneurship, wherein one starts a foundation for reaching out to the economically disadvantaged, by helping them learn useful skills for the marketplace. The possibilities are endless, but as Soul purpose unfolds for this individual ... it will take a characteristic "7th-Ray flavor," and this is because such a person is growing closer & closer to the Father's house, wherein all Ray energies are gradually, increasingly synthesized. Eventually, that person may even transition to the 3rd Ray (spiritually, as a Soul), since this provides a natural synthesis for folks on Rays 5 and 7. Souls on Rays 4 and 6 likewise eventually transition to Ray 2, but these changes only occur at the very end of the spiritual path.

As a distinction between Rays 2 & 6, esotericists regard Master Jesus, the Syrian Master, as the prime example of a perfected 6th-Ray man. All zealotry, all fanaticism, all of the impractical portion of the true Spirit of Idealism ... has long since been balanced within his being, and the fullness - of what a person on the 6th Ray can accomplish, has been demonstrated (for a couple thousand years, actually). He has gone so much farther, in fact, that all 6th-Ray Souls are spiritually bound to Him, or guided, as it were, in the inner worlds. Such a Master is beyond Masterhood, and is a Lord of a Ray, being the direct representative upon our planet for the 6th Ray within our System - and in its Cosmic origin. Thus, to attain that level of perfection ... may seem impossible to us, and isn't exactly going to come tomorrow, but it will certainly not help if we say to ourself, "I could never be like that." I believe Master J. would frown slightly, to hear such a thing.

Other Masters have reached perfection upon the other Rays, though a true Master is a Master of all the Rays ... and simply continues to direct the energies of one of them more so than the rest - especially if a Chohan, or `Lord.' Upon Ray 2, is the Master KH (Kuthumi, or Koot Hoomi), a Kashmiri Brahmin, by outer appearance ... and very different in many ways, than Master Jesus. This is the Ray of Love-Wisdom, central to Christianity, and also to Buddhism. Master KH is the Ray Lord of this 2nd Ray ... yet it might be said that a more perfect expression of this Divine Energy - is the Christ. This is not a slight to Master KH, but simply indicates that spiritual evolution continues, and that beyond Master KH's attainment (and in His future), is that of the Christ Himself. In the East, Christ is called the Bodhisattva - and this literally means, Awakened to the Law. Who, but one fully awake to the Law of Love ... could and would make the pledge, to steward the entire spiritual evolution of all of Humanity, and of the Angelic Kingdom (numerically, more than twice as large as we are)?

A lot of this is scanty ... but then, I'm no expert! Just have a few ideas that are the syntheses of studies, experiences and insights ...

Love & Light,

Some here might be intrested in reading The Seven Words, a short text by Samael Aun Weor that explains the Seven Rays in chapter four.

The full text can be found here.

Quote:
"These are the seven rays of which the Theosophists have spoken so much and to which they have dedicated entire volumes, without ever having given the exact and concrete explanation about them. The Theosophists have described the rays in such a nebulous and vague manner that they really do not meet the inner aspirations of the Soul. The Theosophists lack being more practical..."

I find it very interesting with the rays at the moment, though esoteric astrology is such a interesting way of getting closer to people, I don't believe though that the rays are connected to any specific master. I believe you will find the master within. When the student is ready, the master or Mahatma will appear. The Mahat, or cosmic ideation, has no specific location in time and space and is our collective thoughts that have been eternalized into akasha on the higher levels of the astral light. It is archetypal ideas that come to us trough our higher intuition in moments of peace and insight.
