That is not true. Over 400 million people have taken bath during the current Kumbha festival at the Confluence of Rivers Ganges and Yamuna. No epidemic.

Ganges is no more any filth. It has been cleaned up to a great extent. As for rationalization, I can't understand belief in God, soul and messengers that the Abrahamic religions have. Superstition is not for rational people.
