a figment of your imagination
I would saybinterfaith exploration is for me somewhat of a "bored" game due to the fact I am interested in the belief systems and those that believe them and how they believe.

Some are aggressive believers, others much more passive, some I would classify as almost holy and others 'holier than thou'

It is the same with board games, I like to play to see how folks play...life's attitudes bleed right into game play...some play to win via punishing the opponent or keeping them from winning, others straight skill others cheat.

I was raised in a WASP game playing family... today it is Homeworlds, Euchre, cribbage, onitama, holdem, bridge, chess, truco, hearts, hive, Azul, splendor, lost cities, the gang, fluxx, volcano... I have more than one friend who are game designers and get to playtest games before they come to market.

How about you?

Hmm interesting post. Im not sure how much my play style is reflected in my faith lol. Im a very strategic player and very few people beat me at games like Chess, Pinochle, Spades, Risk, Hand and Foot. I have a very unique ability to see several moves ahead as i can usually anticipate what my oponents moves will be or i can mentally count cards. I am competitive but not nasty about it. These characteristics make me good at my job as well.

What distinguishes something from a 'bored game' from an actual interest?
Interesting question. I think my interests lie in making existence interesting. I have always liked entertaining and being entertained. I enjoy a sense of accomplishment for what I err...accomplish. I also enjoy a sense of wonder....but I prefer solvable puzzles....but not to just take up time looking for pieces, I need problems to solve along the way.

Um, stupid question here: have you ever played either mah jong or go? Both are games from the far east (one's from China and the other's from [I believe] Japan...) I was introduced to mah jong about a score of years ago, but nobody where I live plays it...

Like most people with ADHD I am both easily bored and easily frustrated.

I like things to do that are interesting and easy. Intriguing and absorbing without being so excessively demanding that it's brain-busting or flat out tedious.

I did recently discover this little dice game Dice Game which is pretty easy once you get the hang of it, but it does involve some strategy.

I really liked little games when I was a kid, but the adults often were too bored of them to play with me as much as I wanted.

The games the adults liked tended to be things like gin rummy or Chinese Checkers, played where no matter how many players you have you fill the board. The tangle in the middle was so slow it drove me crazy, but everybody else in the family loved it (including my younger sister who also has ADHD)

I know about mahjong and Go but never learned even though i would love to

@TheLightWithin

I play upwords every evening with my wife(to make sure or brains are still working :)).
Its's a bit like scrabble except in 3-D. I find it much more fun than scrabble.
The Scrabble-like Upwords gets its name because you can stack letters and entire words on top of each other. The higher you stack — up to five levels — the more points you pile up.
There's also an online version, which I have just discovered.
Anyway here's a link with pictures that will give you the idea.

Cheers and have a peaceful Christmas

Craz, there was another scrabblish game rsvp, used cube letters so they were multicided and went vertical so words were made both sides of the board..another twist.

Phyllis, I hear the physical mahjong differs from the computer solitaire...I have an interest on learning.

Go intrigues me as well.

TLW, my daughter likes Catan, I used to like yahtzee, I am not that big on games that include chance (except ones that add an element to reduce it, like poker)

Poker?
..not a very sociable game .. I remember in the UK (and most likely many other countries),
'whist drives' were popular. It is basically "trumps" with all cards in play.
Partners sit opposite each other with 13 cards each( a table of 4), and the pairs have to get the majority of tricks.
It was usually arranged in a hall, with partners being chosen, and swapped around.
Skill as well as luck involved, but designed as a social event .. can be arranged in pubs etc.

The game got more refined with the popularity of bridge .. there I bow out .. it's too "clinical" for me. :)
Plain whist is a better family game .. it is uncomplicated.

This game, Catan, combines strategy with chance, if that helps.
Making plans based on the hand you're dealt and hoping for a good hand each roll.
Almost like real life!! 🤩

I used to play mah jong a lot. It's quite simple - basically you try to "use up" all your tiles in groups or runs. (The equivalent in cards of, say, three 7s, four jacks, and 5, 6, 7 of diamonds).

I have only played the solitaire online I hear the live version is completely different.
