The north of which country?

Sorry wil didnt see this a year ago now. And I've visited the north country this summer too
The Adirondacks way upstate New York State is referred to as the north country / "North Country" locally

Interesting both my parents born and raised just west of ROC

So you may know the Western region of NYS then.

Not really...born in Ithaca but moved to southwest US as a kid...only went to Rochester area for family gatherings weddings funerals every couple years....

I was born out West and moved to WNY as a kid

When I was a kid I thought my family lived "upstate" I later learned that meant 'anything but nyc' then I learned there is northern tier and southern tier. Where does wny start and end? All these areas seem interesting to me.

Indeed. I thought it was crazy when NYC people I met in college considered Western NY "upstate"
Where I was from, the only "downstate" was Pennsylvania!!
