The heart is more powerful than the brain!

I saw the documentary. I liked the argument that somehow we have intuitively given the heart the attribute of handling emotions, in many cultures and even today it is a very powerful metaphor of passion, as opposed to a plain pump. For example ayurveda teaches that many mental faculties lie in...

Why is it hard for Christians to accept Mohammad?

That is exactly the bottom line, if you accept Mohammed's teachings you are clearly devaluing Jesus Christ, isn't that obvious? On the other hand, if Jesus was the final prophet and messiah, where does that leave Mohammed?

Why is it hard for Christians to accept Mohammad?

Lets reverse the question. Why is it hard for Muslims to accept Jesus Christ?

100 things to do before I go...

Well sorry, first I need to pay my mortgage before I go. Don't want to make this thread too depressing:D Seriously, to live life abundantly, whatever that means, I'm still wondering:confused:

    Should churches always be open?

From my evangelical background: church= religious building, or church= a group of believers. Think of all the christians that worship in unsual buildings like schools and community centres, and those that do church at home.

    Jesus, sex and Mary Magdalen

Quahom, I know that this derails the conversation a bit: I understand perfectly well what you are saying here, I've heard it before, I've read about it in the lives of some missionaries, etc. The problem is that this kind of thinking still makes me cringe, I can understand leaving your parents...

Free Choice or Chioce by Evolution of Consciousness?

It's a very interesting debate. I tend to agree with the concept that free will exists, but only in our concious self awareness, otherwise it is just plain illusion. In the scale of things, say within the square meter of my existence, yes I do have some form of free will, in the larger scale...

    Religion and Existential Angst.

For me, the threshold before becoming a christian was full of existential emptiness, meaninglessness big time, I was desperate to find answers. Nowadays I am again seeking, but I have over the time learnt to deal with uncertainty better.

The Advantage of Being an Athiest

I see it differently, imo atheism is not a neutral stance regarding god. As soon as I claim that there are no pink hamsters in the moon, I am placing a belief and responsibility in that statement. If I don't claim anything either way, then there is nothing for me to prove or disprove.

The Advantage of Being an Athiest

Don't think so, the atheist MUST prove that god does not exist, whether it matches god as described by any of the world religions is another matter. I agree with Paladin, the only honest option is agnosticism if you really want to stand by the rules of logic and proof. Theism and atheism are...

    Jesus, sex and Mary Magdalen

Penguin, I found this article analysing the history of celibacy in christianity. Introduction, Celebacy Their conclusion is that either stating Jesus' celibacy or non celibacy is pure speculation. As far as I can tell this is not a christian organisation, so you would still need a response...

    Jesus, sex and Mary Magdalen

If I understood correctly, penguin is asking about the theological implications of such scenario, regardless of what really happened.

    Seeing God in everything

I was just reading the thread Do all Hindus agree with idol worship? and this theme caught my attention: I don't know how to phrase this accurately, but my question roughly is about how to see God (or whatever you want to call it) in everything. Rightly or wrongly I have this prejudice about...

Jen: Source of Power and Morality in Confusionism?

I struggled a long time trying to understand what Te really means, until I came across Gia-Fu Feng's translation of the Tao-Te Ching, which includes a brief introduction to the basic concepts. According to the GFF, although Te is usually translated as Virtue, it has nothing to do with the...

    what about l ray smith

I've read some of his "hell" series, and he seems to give very reasonable arguments to back his point. His ideas are interesting. His argument is like this: everybody dies, the difference is that only God's people will be resurrected when the time comes. Those who don't belong to God will...

    Jack Straw

James, the veil predates Islam and Christianity. It was a cultural custom of modesty in several "pagan" cultures, in the Greek world and elsewhere. That's why Paul made reference to it, and that's why I see it as a relative custom, depending on the values of the times and culture. Have a look...

    Good Men Hate God

Yesterday I was finding out about the history of sufism in wiki, and I came across this little story about a woman called Rabia: One day, she was seen running through the streets of Basra carrying a torch in one hand and a bucket of water in the other. When asked what she was doing, she...
