How much of the Nicene Creed to you agree to?

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible; And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made...

    Monotheism and Meditation

i would say that Christian prayer is only half about actually speaking. If it was only speaking then it would only be one way. What some call meditation i would call "listening to God".

    The Gospel of Gamliel

While this may not be a particulary scholarly view, i believe that the books of Aporcypha could in no way be Gods word for the reason that most of them are lost or only fragments survived. Surely God would protect his Word. The 4 Gospels we have appear in vast numbers of manuscripts, while...

Exodus 24:8 "Moses then took the blood, sprinkled it on the people and said, "This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words." Jeremiah 31:31 "The time is coming," declares the LORD , "when I will make a new covenant with the house of...

    Covenant

Judaism sees itself as under the Mosiac Covenant. Christianity sees itself under a new Covenant inaugerated by Christ. Does Islam sees itself under the Mosiac, Christian or a new Mohammedian Covenant?

Song of Songs / Songs of Solomon

As far as i know, the book of Ruth does not contain a single reference to G-d. As far as i know, the theological importance of the book of Ruth is how G-d acts in everday live. However, the Songs of Solomon is very much a mystery to me. I have heard it described as "The Holy of Holies"...

rearrangment of prophets in the bible

exposition: "and the heart of the children to their fathers"; or "with" their fathers; that is, both fathers and children: the meaning is, that John the Baptist should be an instrument of converting many of the Jews, both fathers and children, and bringing them to the knowledge and faith of...

rearrangment of prophets in the bible

I stand corrected! Although i have not come across the reference to missing material in Daniel before. Is it a case of Christians cutting out or adding in material? Is there any resource for this material in english translation? Malachi is the last book in the Septugaint or Old Testament...

    Homosexuality

The Bible only mentions male homosexuality, it seems lesbianism was either not mentioned or considered important. also, although Leviticus does explicitly state that male homosexuality is *bad* under the Old Covenant, the particular verse occurs in the same chapter as saying about not wearing...

rearrangment of prophets in the bible

I think the Christian arrangment follows the "Septugaint". This is a translation from the Hebrew to Greek. Greek was the international language at the time due to the conquests of Alexander, and i think that many Jews could not speak Hebrew (i may have this wrong!) so i translation into Greek...

    Purgatory?

I know this was touched on here: http://www.comparative-religion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2064&highlight=purgatory but do you believe in Purgatory? Do souls need cleansing before heaven? Did the early church believe in it or is it a Catholic invention? Surely nothing impure could enter...

    Gods? Who created those?

I have never found an answer to this so please some one help! Do those who believe in many gods believe that those gods were made or have they always existed? If not, who created those gods? Are they part of "creation" rather then "creators"? Also, should we not worship the creator rather...

    Torah and Old Testament

Is the Christian Old Testament the same as the Jewish Torah? I know the Christians have changed the order of the books (to suit the Septugaint) and split some books into 2 parts (like Chronicles). BUT, aside from this, are the books exactly the same? How about translations? Would a rabbi be...

Life and Morality of the Prophet?

Is it important if the Prophet led a moral life or not, is it just the message and not the messenger that counts? Would he be guilty of hypocrisy if he condemned something and yet committed that same act himself? Please explain the interpretation of this Hadith: The "Sahih Al-Bukhari" hadith...

    Bhuddist account of Creation

While most major religions explain why (if not how) the universe was created, what is the Bhuddist view? Why was the universe created? How? By who or what? What is the prime mover? What caused the spark of life? Does it differ from what we know from science?
