    Not in writing...

i do think that the war of words when relating to religious matters is pretty dangerous, and surely those religious reformers understood this. translations get mangled, passages get taken too literally or are taken out of context to suit the speaker, while other people cite specific passages to...

    Christianity's view on Animals!?

Postmaster- while there's nothing much in the NT that discourages meat eating, my impression would be that the Christian ideal of love and kindness should extend to other living things, too. later saints and religious thinkers have elaborated on that idea- some say it's ok to eat meat...

    Do places have power?

i agree withe everyone else here- yes, certain places do have a sort of "power" or "energy". there are certain expanses of field i'll walk by that seem to glow... don't know how else to explain it. man-made places can give off an energy, as well, especially places of worship.

    coffee, tea or soda?

i'm find of cream soda, but my current diet won't allow it- too much sugar. i'll only take in caffine when i have to stay up until three working on something- as i don't drink coffee or tea very often, ususally one cup will be enough to keep me going all night. whoo!

    Spiritual Teachers

i've talked to Nick on an on-line forum dedicated to discussing enlightenment. i'm not sure what to think of him... he certainly seems to feel that he's enlightened, and qualified to validate or invalidate others' spiritual experiences. my general inclination is to not entrust my spiritual...

    Faith vs. Science?

hey Goddess- there's a book i read a while back that's called "skeptics and true believers". do an Amazon search. it's about one man's journey through science, and the (albeit vague) religious faith it inspires in him. good read.

Why evil if God is so great?

hey Postmaster- my only answer would be, devote yourself to being a force for positive change in the world. be caring, compassionate, thoughtful, and mindful. let your actions and words reflect this. reach out to others when you have the chance, and let others do the same for you. there is...

    interfaith marriage how to

so far i've only dated / been friends with people of different religious traditions. i'm friends with a young jewish woman, and we did have to work out some spirituality-based kinks. i knew she had some long-standing beef with Christianity as a whole, but never said anything until she began...

    Choosing your religion!

well, on a positive note, North Wales has some pretty darn cool place names. seriously, try on-line communities. it's not the same as going to a meeting, but you'll be able to talk with others and get information. is there any tradition on your list that you're especially interested in? i'll...

    Holy Ghost equivalents

hey phenolphthalein7 (what a name!) :D Quakers have a spiritual concept very much like The Holy Spirit as it's understood by more traditional Christians. "unprogrammed" meetings for worship are held in silence, and when one feels moved to speak or share a message with the congregation...

    Choosing your religion!

Geist, try going to a UU service and see how you connect with it. experiment! reading up on religious traditions is good, but one should also bodily hunt around, go to different places and communities, and see what's there. follow what you feel drawn to, and look around. are there any UU...
