Certainly issues will tend to have more than one solution. Perhaps though it is a case of major explanations accompanied by minor reasons in addition. For example what else may have marked the oak as special for some cultures?

I do not believe the meaning has ever been able to reach beyond the personal and self-perception. We see our own place and extrapolate from that to all other beings. It is easier that way though not necessarily proper.
