    On reading Scripture

I didn't say that a Christian mystic is considered liberal. Q, I made my first comment about delving into the deeper layers of the scriptures in the thread on LIBERAL CHRISTIANITY. When I made the comment in Thomas's thread, I was qualifying my previous statement in that thread by saying that...

    Who is Jesus?

Great post and I agree! The word "messiah" and the word "Christ" both mean annointed. When the Holy Spirit was poured out at pentacost, how would you describe what happened to them? They were annointed with Holy Spirit. They were Christed. Cool huh?!? I posted this link on another thread...

    On reading Scripture

Not what I said. Most liberal Christians I know are deeply concerned with social issues (ie caring for widows and orphans) rather than contemplative/esoteric searching. That's not really a bad thing, imo, as perhaps they are the ones manifesting the Kingdom of God on Earth. I just didn't want...

is there a religious calendar that follows the course of the sun, moon and stars?

Amazon.com has both astrological and astronomical calendars, depending on what you are looking for. I'm not sure what you mean by "religious." Go to amazon.com and type "Calendar 2007 astronomy" or "Calendar 2007 astrology" to get the results that I did.

    Liberal Christianity without Creation?

De 30:6 The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live … OUCH! That's gotta hurt, being literal and all. :)

The Return of an unfamiliar Jesus?

I was going to offer a lengthy reply, but then the word "assuming" jumped out at me and I decided not to. :D My understanding of "return" is colored by the idea of Theosis, which in turn influences my understanding of the rest. This is a great article: http://www.frimmin.com/faith/theosis.html

    On reading Scripture

Wow! Thanks Brian for bumping this amazing post. :) That was my thought on the "liberal Christianity" thread. To see only the surface meaning, imo, impoverishes the message. (To be fair, however, most liberal Christians I know don't desire to search the deeper meaning of scripture either.) I...

    Liberal Christianity without Creation?

It depends on how a person understands or interprets the meaning and reason behind Jesus' execution and resurrection. Plus, even if Genesis isn't meant to literally tell us what happened, it doesn't mean it doesn't truthfully tell us what happened. (Playing devil's advocate here.) The...

Moving deeper past the surface layers

Play the devil's advocate all you want. It helps me think. Actually, I was playing the devil's advocate as well. Hehehe. Perhaps I should stop? :D Maya is an interesting concept. I find that I can thoroughly embrace the Hindu philosopher Ramanuja's concept of Maya, but not Sankara's. It's a...

Moving deeper past the surface layers

You could even turn it around in emmanationist cosmology: The natural is the supernatural revealed. All we are, all the cosmos is, is congealed energy. ;)

Moving deeper past the surface layers

Somebody has to ask this, so it might as well be me. :D If we are stuck in maya, if everything is an illusion ... then WHAT are we supposed to be taking care of? Wouldn't it be like trying to polish a hologram? By the way, I agee with you regarding the whole "God will fix it for us" mentality...

    Who is Jesus?

RubySera, You might like the article found at http://www.crosscurrents.org/weaver0701.htm . The author is a Mennonite (Anabaptist) and an author. The article discusses the different ideas that the church has had towards Jesus' death over the years.

Since CR has cookie issues that make it difficult to find and track threads, is there a chance that the software has a "find posts made in the last 24 hours" option? There is a "find today's posts" option, but how about something that will go back a little farther than that? Did any of that...

    Pagan Clergy

AODA, OBOD, and ADF have officially recognized clergy. I'm sure other paths do also, but I'm not familiar with them. Visit any of the following for more information. ADF is specifically pagan and polytheistic. The others are not. http://druidry.org/ http://www.aoda.org/...

    just pondering

That'll teach me to play devil's advocate! Actually, I was only saying what I was saying about the "choice" thing because I thought you had a more, ummm, stereotypical view of heaven or of "life forever on a paradise earth." (That last part is the ex-JW coming out in me.) :p My view of...
