    Bible Translation/Version Suggestions?

I will definitely need to look into that version. I don't label myself as "Christian"--or anything, really--but I can clarify a few Bible translation acronyms: ESV = English Standard Version NIV = New International Version RSV (NRSV) = Revised Standard Version (New Revised Standard...

    Bible Translation/Version Suggestions?

Understood. The earliest biblical manuscripts available for translation are copies of copies of... In short, we'll likely never have any original manuscripts and, thus, can only go by those that are available. (Heck, if mankind ever were to find the first version of a manuscript, we'd still be...

Why do people try to change Christianity?

Jesus didn't leave us Christianity. He left the world with a viable template to follow in order to reach atonement (at-onement) with God. His life story and teachings were later labeled "Christianity." The interpretation of Jesus' life purpose has traveled through many hands/cultures, which...

    Bible Translation/Version Suggestions?

I am unfamiliar with the first and third suggestions and will check them out. I am familiar with Besant's Esoteric Christianity. In fact, you can read it--in full, I believe--at either of these two sites: Esoteric Christianity, or, The ... - Google Books or Esoteric Christianity or The Lesser...

    Bible Translation/Version Suggestions?

Shawn, I'm uncertain of the meaning of your reply. Did you just want to give my chosen avatar a bit more pizazz? :D

    Anyone study ACIM, etc.?

I agree with this opinion because I suspect that most people (souls) are not spiritually evolved enough to communicate directly with the Source of All. It's like the biblical quote (Matthew 7:16) says: "By their fruits you shall know them." The end product of living according to "God's...

I'll be sure to do a Google search on that title. :D

    Bible Translation/Version Suggestions?

At the end of the day, all translations are imperfect. After all, every version of the Bible that's available to us today comes from a copy of a copy of a... You get the point. Do certain translations really turn "mustard seed" into "poppy seed" and "pine nut?" (Just checked my copy of the...

    Anyone study ACIM, etc.?

For lack of a better word, that is very cool. :D I've not yet had a chance to visit the A.R.E.'s library. One of these days... DS

    Anyone study ACIM, etc.?

Of the sources you've listed, the only one unfamiliar to me is Kathy Odenino. I've read Ramtha's contributions to the book What the Bleep Do We Know!? but have not read other Ramtha-related sources. And I've heard of Seth but cannot recall through whom he communicates. (Please refresh me. :))...

There is no such thing as 'Free Will'

Sometime between reading your response to my thread on Bible translations/versions, your post on the Catholic nun who was ex-communicated and this response, I've decided that I like you, Dogbrain. :D DS

    Bible Translation/Version Suggestions?

I suspect that, with time, I will add various editions to my current few. Yet I suspect that I will prefer the NASV (aka, NASB) and the ESV to most others. (I may even get the NKJV eventually.) I've not researched the original translators of the KJV, but it was edited by a Catholic...

    Bible Translation/Version Suggestions?

I believe that God has inspired/moved mankind to write a variety of holy texts. I have read certain books of the Bible here and there over the years but never attempted to read the whole thing. Now, I'd like to read (and meditate on) it in its entirety. I currently have an Oxford study Bible...

    Anyone study ACIM, etc.?

I'm curious to know if anyone studies A Course in Miracles--or any other esoteric-leaning sources, such as the readings given through Edgar Cayce, etc. Thank you, DS

There is no such thing as 'Free Will'

One can also consider free will a myth if one believes that everyone--every soul--is, over time, working his/her way back to God. If we're all going to get "there" eventually, wouldn't that mean that we don't really have free will in terms of remaining "cut off" from God? Just my $.02. :D

    Catholic nun excommunicated for abortion

Let's say that it's 100% certain that a woman will die if her pregnancy is allowed to continue. Is it somehow moral/ethical/human/godly to allow her to die, so that the fetus can continue to grow? And what if it's also certain that the fetus/baby will die in the process--i.e., will never leave...

    Bible Translation/Version Suggestions?

You're braver than I. ;) I've compared excerpts of various biblical translations and found those that have a "storybook" feel--i.e., a thought-for-thought translation--such as The Message and the NLT, don't feel "right" for me. Knowing that much, though, helps me to narrow things down a bit...
