    Pantheism and Panentheism

Here are some random quotes:Tao Te Ching, is considered by some as one of the great anarchist classics. The principal Taoist work, the Tao te ching, may be considered one of the greatest anarchist classics. On the subject of Wu-Wei:We might want to consider the philologically similar term...

    Pantheism and Panentheism

A friend does Feng Shui professionally. I ask her what she does. She tells me she does "Nothing." Personally, I think she's just being clever & esoteric when she talks about that No-Doing thing she does. I dont know exactly what the "law of the Tao" is. But if Wu-Wei is any indication (as a...

The concept of obedience in the Old Testament

It makes perfect sense to me to equate faith with obedience - or at least link them. The emphasis on obedience is a way of working backward to clarify the essential attitude. The act of obedience demonstrates faith. A belief that is not fully internalized doesn't influence behavior.

    Pantheism and Panentheism

Is the Taoist understanding of the creation of the world materialistic or does it call for a "design"/consciousness/Divine Mind concept? If the world the product of some kind of naturalistic progression in the formation of matter, there would be no need to invoke a more elaborate creation...

    Pantheism and Panentheism

Well ok, if you can't name it or describe it, how do you study it? First of all, intelligent design theory does not settle the question of deity being responsible for the natural order of things -- you know, the question I keep asking and don't get an answer on. :p:p:p Secondly, I'm not sure...

    Pantheism and Panentheism

Many things can be subtle and wonderful wihtout being divine. Which of those three are salvation principles? In a Christian view, the Holy Spirit and the Incarnation are salvific in function and importance. Pantheistic ideologies still have a place for them. The Free dictionary.com definition...

    Pantheism and Panentheism

Re: An Interfaith view Relevance to pantheism or panentheism? I'd be interested in your thoughts on common ground with respect to End of Times, that is, the idea of salvation. So far into the discussion I haven't seen anything resembling a (panen)theistic view in Taoism, particularly in...

    Pantheism and Panentheism

How can there be Revelation when there is no divine agency? I think of revelation in Judeo Christian terms as being from a divine agency who is outside Creation who is revealing a divine/transcendent jurisdiction over the created world. It can include an element of divine judgment and...

    Pantheism and Panentheism

Re: An Interfaith view ok, so Taoism doesn't have anything like the Incarnation. Let's move on to the Holy Spirit...."Taoism tells us that the world evolves ....without needing the redemptive influence of divine Grace. That being the case, there is also no need for the Holy Spirit to help...

The concept of obedience in the Old Testament

Apparently the word use for 'fear' is translated as "awe" in some translations of the Bible. Also, the OT word "hear/obey" is a verb. "Fear/awe" would be a noun. I'm sure sure OT scholars will help us out here momentarily. :)

    Pantheism and Panentheism

Obviously this forum is supposed to concerned with comparative religion. But sometimes looking for similarities can cause us to overlook important differences. I still remember someone saying that Buddhist have the equivalent of Christian mystical experiences. I'm not sure where Buddhists...

    Pantheism and Panentheism

As in G-d's promise and G-d's faithfulness toward His children. In the way of following divine will? As in Divine revelation of G-d's will? Not sure what you mean. What is revelation in Taoism?

The concept of obedience in the Old Testament

Someone recently referenced an article on Islam that reminded me of the Biblical basis for Islam's emphasis on 'submission' or obedience to G-d's will. Here are some verses with the word OBEY from the OT:Genesis 27:8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee...

    Pantheism and Panentheism

Submission to G-d is an Abrahamic concept, which is developed in Genesis 22:The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you...

    Pantheism and Panentheism

Re: An Interfaith view I would say that it is based in the idea of Deity that is becoming infinite through finite forms. "Do you think Teilhard de Chardin saw evidence of creatio ex nihilo whe he discovered Peking man in 1929? Or do you think he saw evidence of panentheistic evolutionary...

    Pantheism and Panentheism

Re: An Interfaith view One obvious way to safeguard G-d's immutability and unconditionability is to relegate Him to a place outside History and, indeed, outside nature and the world. It seems to me that what you are espousing is a Gnostic doctrine of a G-d who does not act within history...
