Survey: Americans switching faiths, dropping out

Now this could be either very encouraging or very disappointing, depending on how you choose to look at it. A seeker and an optimist such as myself would say that people are no longer content to blindly accept the faith of their fathers and are seeking their own truth, refusing to be spoon-fed...

Thomas - don't you love how Mee never addressed the errors in the NWT? You seem to be very educated in this area, since you mentioned the so-called "translators" of that Bible being unable to pass a simple test. If this is the "best and most accurate" translation of the Bible, I would challenge...

If that's true then you're saying Jesus is not God. And if He's not God, He's just a crazy person who tries to heal people and create miracles. The Word became flesh and dwelled amongst us; that sounds like a Divine being to me . . . . . .

    Church: Men Not Allowed!

Thanks for your insights, Saltmeister. Methinks you have some background in psychology or medicine. I've never even heard of the grey matter\white matter aspect. Interesting. I should point out here that I also quit going to church, for different reasons. So I'm not pushing the idea of forcing...

    Church: Men Not Allowed!

Hmm, interesting thought. I think in any group worship situation, there should be a balance of the emotional and the intellectual, (or as some have implied, the masculine and the feminine), but I would argue that emotional songs and a touchy-feely atmosphere are hardly the reason men are not...

would you vote for a jewish or muslim President of the U.S.?

Well, seeing as how this thread was started in 2005, I don't think they meant Obama . . . it would be interesting to see what these people think now; if there opinions have changed.

What would you say to God?

Ooh, good one! Probably "I'm sorry" to be quickly followed by, "What were You really trying to tell us?"

What I like about other religions

This is an awesome idea. Unfortunately, I don't know very much about other religions, but I'll take a stab at it: Catholicism - the liturgy, art, music, rituals, architecture Judaism - the history, perseverance, culture Islam - the devotion to their faith and each other, art, culture Wicca -...

    Improve vocabulary and feed people.

We eat fries. The White House cafeteria re-named them Freedom Fries. (barf - don't get me started). I don't know anyone who calls them French fries, they're just fries.

When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom Let it be And in my hour of darkness She is standing right it front of me Speaking words of wisdom Let it be Let it be, let it be Let it be, let it be Whisper words of wisdom Let it be And when...

Some dates (not all!) for the End of the World

:p Ha ha! No, unfortunately people's fears have been used against them since the beginning.

Some dates (not all!) for the End of the World

Great post! And it just goes to show that nobody knows when the day will be, which is exactly what the Bible says. I'm sick of so-called Christians wasting their lives on attempting to predict God's actions, when it serves them and humanity much better to simply obey Christ's teaching to love...

When you say "we", do you mean Muslims or everyone? Because if you mean everyone, I'm going to have to disagree with you . . . .

    Why you believe that non-vegetarian

I'm with 17th - what are we supposed to eat then? God gave mankind control over the animals; there exists a natural hierarchy in this world when it comes to survival. Plus, animals eat each other all the time - even some plants eat animals! It's called common sense.

I believe I addressed that explanation in my first post. While very true, it fails to address the many horrors of our world that have nothing to do with our own sins or the sins of others. Unless, of course, you believe that diseases, poverty, and the like are God's punishment for something...

I know many people would disagree that God is not confusing. While the message of the Gospel is fairly straightforward, many arguments could be made about the current state of the world and God's hand (or lack thereof) in it. A simplistic explanation would be that it's all a result of our sin...
