Music of your nation or tradition

I had never heard of Corsican polyphony before, but I enjoyed the sample. Thank you. As soon as I heard it, the musical style, I was reminded of this gem from Georgia. I have no Georgian ancestry, so I hope that Kenny will forgive me for sneaking it in. I have got plenty of Celt though.

What is Buddhism's take on losing your pet?

I have met people who view god as a 'strict dad'. We all know strict dads, one kid gets the smacks and the other gets off lightly. He/she knows how to handle Dad, say the right things, and so forth. One colleague of mine, from a deeply religious family, was quite open about it. He mixed with...

    Atonement in religions

Yes, I suppose that is what I meant, in part, by Karmic or judgement. If you look at legal systems, they were originally one crime, one punishment. Over time they have developed and become more complex. Mitigating circumstances are considered. Social and psychological reports are considered. I...

    Atonement in religions

I suppose I am best described as an agnostic. Sometimes I feel there is a god, often I don't. I can have several such contradictions in a single day. However, I felt a jolt of recognition in what @RJM wrote. I know guilt. I have never killed a person, never beat a woman. Nonetheless, when I was...

    Who is familiar with Perennialism?

I discovered Perennial philosophy a few years ago and have found the idea very attractive. I read and enjoyed 'Perennial Philosophy' by Arthur Versluis.

    Atonement in religions

That is a very good question. I have long wondered where these imposed planetary limits come from. I myself, as a believer in reincarnation/rebirth. accept that there may well be an interplanetary and interdimensional aspect to it. The smaller viewpoint though may be partly justified. If you...

Thank you Bozwell. There is some excellent stuff here. I am already quite impressed with Maria Popova.

What do your real life friends believe?

Religious belief has never been a part of my social life. My main spiritual inspiration has been Buddhism and Modern Drudry. I am happy to identify as either or both. Looking back over the beliefs of some close friends, it is a mixed bag. A Buddhist, a Quaker, and two lapsed Catholics. Others at...

    Spirituality and the Arts

Which is perhaps beyond the boundaries of a post on the arts. Or perhaps not? Food for thought.

    Spirituality and the Arts

I agree with that, although I was thinking more of the recipient. For me, nature is often a strong transmitter of spiritual feelings. I have struggled for years to both express this and gain a greater understanding of this. Sadly I am not a painter and am a very poor poet but what I have seen...

    Trauma Zone (Russia 1985-2k)

Sadly you are 100% correct. It is a unique era in the history of the British left. A terminal prognosis was given with Thatcher's 1979 victory and sometime later Blair eagerly organized the funeral. The critics of the left are no longer sherry-sipping gentlemen who read classics at Oxbridge nor...

    Try the Trinity.

This comment has jogged my memory. I am sorry that I will be rather vague here but I do not remember the source and neither Greek philosophy nor Christianity is my area. Somebody wrote that according to a Greek idea, things are either of 'substance' or 'relationship'. The author was stating that...

    Spirituality and the Arts

Hello @Bozwell Sorry for my late response. I have not been around much and your post got missed. Quite a bit of stuff here so I will take some time over it. Thanks for introducing Rebecca Elson. A poet and an astronomer, what a wonderful combination. I can't think of anyone better qualified to...

Gd as ordering force in the Universe

I agree with you in principle but this is really about interpreting what we receive from the five senses. I, however, firmly believe that our perception does not end there. Many people do catch glimpses of 'something' else. Such intuitive/mystical experiences do make evidence-based discussion...

Scientific Proofs Authenticating GOD Is PERSONALITY and Physical Proofs of GOD's Living Reality!...

Yes, I agree with you here. I think that even when dealing only with what we can "detect and perceive" we have major problems. Who could have studied the 'Big Bang' and foreseen Shakespeare, Beethoven and Einstein on this little planet? The complexity of the known is on a mind-boggling scale.

Does anyone have any insight on Tubal-Cain and his daughter?

Just did a little digging myself. "The Pillars of Tubal Cain" is a very well-received book, but is incredibly expensive. Could this be what you are looking for?

Does anyone have any insight on Tubal-Cain and his daughter?

The only book that I know of is "The Forge of Tubal Cain" Which you have probably found while searching. I have a vague feeling that Doreen Valiente may have covered the subject in one or more of her books but I cannot be sure.

What would the world be like without Jesus?

Some of your earlier posts show that you have little understanding of history. Today your appalling ignorance is confirmed.
