Are humans predisposed to believe in magic?

I'm way late to this, but I just recently joined so that is my excuse....Lol! Julian Jaynes noted in his book "The Bicameral Mind" that early mankind back in the Sumerian days (what, about 3500 B.C.?) brains were not as separated by that middle section of connective tissue as ours are today...

Unusual Activity from our Galaxy's Black Hole

That was a nifty little news piece! Thanks for the heads up on it. Black Holes are just phenomenally weird aren't they? One of the truly great books on them is by Leonard Susskind, "The Black Hole Wars" where he hacks it out (in a friendly yet serious manner) with Stephen Hawking over various...

The Galaxy Insight: 'The Universe is in Some Deep Sense Tied to Homo Sapiens'

Nasruddin you bring up a great point. The idea of holons, parts having the entire whole in them and fractals, repeats of wholes. Helmut Koester's idea. I was just reading this today in Colin A. Low's very interesting and well done book "The Hermetic Kabbalah." Now, Leonora Leet has observed...

The Galaxy Insight: 'The Universe is in Some Deep Sense Tied to Homo Sapiens'

So far as I grasp, the universe will always reveal and conceal as it reveals. It is the nature of our dualistic era we find ourselves in at this level of reality. there IS a WHOLE, but we ain't it. We only perceive the finite, therefore, as we improve and increase our ability to see more, always...

Jesus of the κοσμος: Helpful, Scintillating Notes on the Λογος (Logos) of John 1:1

Seems to me that Maximus the Confessor got the point which I was elaborating on! Good on him... I think one thing that has so interested me about the Logos is, every time I look into it, I gain a greater appreciation and broader implications of just what John merely hinted at. It is quite a...

    Jesus vs the Church

This appears to me to be akin to saying well, after all, the sun has shined for several thousand years, there is no more reason for it to...

    Jesus vs the Church

After all, the sun itself does not select just a few chosen few to shine on, but literally covers the world. One can easily imagine the spiritual light does so since the physical light behaves no different than the spiritual light since all is One anyway.

    Jesus vs the Church

Mormons have solved this by a hierarchy that gives automatic succession regardless of qualification. The original succession crisis form Joseph Smith's myopia of not looking ahead to potential problems caused them enough headaches that they adapted an automatic system which they love to present...

    The place of the human

You are always so insightful and bring so much to your posts. I know....I KNOW how much work sometimes it gets to be, and it is not a thankless task. I enjoy reading your missives. You said Christian metaphysics views human nature as one that is 'open to the infinite', and from there we get...

Did anybody refute A. Victor Garaffa article on Paul?

OK, I can see why that would make this kind of draw all right. Just trying to get my bearings more is all. Thanks man

Did anybody refute A. Victor Garaffa article on Paul?

Soooooo, may I ask a stupid question here? Why is it thought necessary to refute this article you guys are talking about?

Christianity, Nature, and the Mystical Zohar

OHMIGOSH!!! I just realized this is the entire book! I had no idea it was available online! I have no idea what I did with my copy, but this is a seriously great book. THANK YOU for the link man! I owe you a hamburger and fries! I am soooooo slow sometimes.....sigh. That is the thorn in my side...

    Jesus vs the Church

But you judged the church as having no light. That is what I find problematic. You don't have to cut down a religion in order to show yours has light. They all have light. And all are finite in their outlooks since the finite cannot, by its very nature observe the whole. All the little lights...

    Jesus vs the Church

I don't see it as an either/or, but a both. There is nothing stopping God from adding light elsewhere with other faiths and light and knowledge. There should be no contest, it's all one spirit so far as I can tell. No reason to pit religions against each other, that has gone on for far too long...
