    Gospel of Thomas

Hello Thomas, You said: — with all due respect, it's my impression that only one Entity - in Gnostic thought - behaves in this fashion, and that's Samael/Yaltabaoth. He is the Chief (Primary) Archon of "The Apocryphon of John". To be fair, His Angels also behave in the same fashion, it is...

The Apocrypha what use does it have?

Hello FriendRob, I could'nt agree more, they are fascinating texts, and some of the imagery is worthy of the 1960s - 1 Enoch especially. :) The "really interesting spiritual insights" sometimes take some bit of thought to realise, and i must admit that it seems to me that the texts are much...

The Apocrypha what use does it have?

Brian, You mentioned The Shepherd of Hermas - it's one of my favourite texts, along with the Wisdom of Solomon. I particularly like the Shepherds' attitude problem towards Hermas, constantly referring to him as "foolish", etc. - it makes it read as though it's a genuine record of a series of...

    Rebirth/Reincarnation in Christianity

There are different ways to read the story of Onan, Nogodnomasters. It seems to me that Jehovah murdered Onan simply because he refused to get his brothers' widow pregnant. Warmest Regards, malcolm

    Rebirth/Reincarnation in Christianity

Vajradhara, You said: "One of the more common arguments against the idea of rebirth is that we do not remember our past existences." An absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. I cannot remember my (last) birth, but i assume that it happened. : ) Warmest Regards, malcolm

    Biblical Translation.

Dear All, Thank you kindly for all your responses. By cross-referencing Genesis, parts of the Koran, and some of the Texts from the Nag Hammadi Library, i have found the answers that i sought. I am sorry to have stirred up contention. Once again thank you all, i am most grateful...

    New boards: taking ideas

Where would be a good idea to put it? As much of it's based around the Christian teachings would it fit in the 'Monotheism' Forum? malcolm

    How Do We Look Within?

I, Brian, When you say: "As for the ego itself - it is a necessary part of the living self." - with respect, it is only apparent in humankind, as far as i know. Is there research that shows it to exist elsewhere? Other life-forms certainly have their own individual 'identity' but do not appear...

    Biblical Translation.

Thanks for the help, together, i'm a bit further along the path to .... wherever. Words are tricky, and unless we know what was originally intended, confusion easily arises. Possibly some of this is caused by unfamiliar imagery in the sentences and verses. Haps if we try to 'analyse' it too...

    How Do We Look Within?

pseudonymous, To be honest, i don't feel for a moment that we were 'perfect', if we were, we would not need to evolve. I'm not advocating any kind of a 'fall'. The way i can best describe my feelings on this is that we were in a state of 'innocence' - rather than 'perfection', and became...

    How Do We Look Within?

My feelings on personal spiritual advancement (hows that - better than enlightenment?) is that we are a developing 'awareness', but that for hard-to-describe reasons, most of us have 'forgotten' it, and have susequently become trapped in the ego. Spiritual advancement comes when we 'remember'...
