The proplem with God (Hell and free will)

I'm avoiding the whole Hell part of this but when in comes to 'pre-ordained' or 'pre-destined' issue I kind of like C S Lewis' explanation in the Screwtape Letters; it goes a bit like this 'God exists outside of time as humans experience it, He experiences all of time like Humans experiance the...

    Does it matter

The honest answer is I don't know. the following is just an opinion and I can only defend it with 'it feels right to me'. Like you I was brought up a Christian and I've since left the church. My feeling is too many Christians and denominations concentrate soley on the crucifixion, resurection...

How many Lord of lords are there?

If I've understood the original question correctly-who is Lord of Lords- isn't the simple answer to that God? Getting into it a bit deeper with the Trinity Wouldn't it be acceptable to call all 3 parts of the Trinity (Father, Son, Spirit) Lord of Lords collectivly and 'individually', which would...

    God is Triune

Thanks to Faithfulservant and Blaznfattyz for two concise and easy to understand answers (and both saying the same thing which helps) to my question. 1 more question (but I don't promise to go away and stop asking any more...) Faithfulservant equates him with 'the angel of the Lord' who wrestels...

    God is Triune

Do you mean Jesus as spirit or Jesus as physical, flesh and blood? Because if the latter-if he had a flesh and blood body from before the Garden Of Eden-why would he have needed to be born of a virgin etc? I always understood there to be a veil of some sort (be it mist, burning bush or whatever)...

    Which history would you visit?

Unfortunatly Mel Gibson got other people to do some very accurate research for him for that film. About 15 years ago, before I got interested in Sumer, I was fascinated by the Aztecs and 'very annoyed' with the Conquistadors for what they did to them. That was while I was reading about what a...

    Which history would you visit?

What period of history would I visit? One with indoor plumbing?Early Sumer fascinates me- I'd love to see the invention of the city, writting, the change from nomadic to settled... Also the chance to meet the real King Gilgamesh (I think the literery one is the best example of a 'mythical' hero...

Church loses opt-out fight over gay adoptions

Yep, rule are rules and I don't believe it's right to discriminate against some one because of their sexuality. It's my opinion that the Roman Catholic Church is sticking to an outmoded, irrellevant civil law from the Bible. But it's also a part of their belief. It seems to me the ruling that a...

    Atlantis: did it exist?

I have a question. Why are the Sumerians being ignored in all this? They pre-date Egypt by quite a bit; show a steady rather than dramatic technological progress, their written language shows the same from very simple 'accountancy' origins up to writting the first (known) epic poem/novel. Their...

Church loses opt-out fight over gay adoptions

I believe Church and State should be seperate. To me that would mean a Roman Catholic (or member of any other group that, in this case, found the idea of a gay couple adopting a child offensive) working within the State Adoption Service should not be allowed to discriminate against a gay couple...

    Grab the nearest book

This flood of information rapidly led to the first concerted efforts to produce a structured history of the ancient Egyptian civilisation. (A Test Of Time- David Rohl). 'That was ice cubes,' Groat whispered. 'Got 'em from the mortuary but don't you worry, sir, they was hardly used...' (Going...

    What made god?

On other threads I've had good experiance of Silas. I love nothing better than a good argument (meaning and exchange of views, opinions etc, not the nasty, shouty kind...). Part of the problem was also me- on a seperate thread an argument with Silas was degenerating into the shouty kind...

    What made god?

I'm finished with this thread-this is the second time I've taken one 'off topic' and I don't want to get a rep here... the answer to you question is Jesus is important to Christianity because you all believe he fulfiled the OT prophecies of a messia, you belive he suffered and died to pay for...

    What made god?

I understand the concept of Jesus sacrifice- although (and I hate to admit it) that has to be one of the best and easiest to understand explainations I've heard so far. I thought the joke was obvious with the 'punch-line'-sending God a strongly worded letter (I never claimed it was a funny joke).
