scriptural basis for christian objection to homosexuality

I'm tired of homosexuals and their "lifestyle." Because I'm an American, and a patriot, I have to go to bat for anyone who is being treated unequally under the law. That's my civic obligation as a citizen. I really wish that we would just bite the bullet and level the playing field, then I...

    Reasonable faith

As an afterthought: It's truly unfortunate that sexual self-repression became confused with aceticism. Paul has that problem, but at least he takes a moderate, empathetic position when counselling others. People, some people, think that if one were to embrace his natural nature it would lead...

I understand what you're saying, but Paul also talks about the natural law. The law that is written into our very being as opposed to an externally enforced, ritualistic law. Do you know what I'm talking about? And, in considering the nature of the Logos it stands to reason that there is a...

Thanks for the welcome! I think that by the time we're mature enough to really consider things we've inherited a lot of preconceived notions. It takes a fair amount of effort to untangle all that programming. That's where being a noncomformist helps IMO. I guess my answer to your question...

I'm sorry. I didn't know that there was an ongoing feud over this stuff. I was thinking of people I know in my real life who are religious bigots, not anyone here. I guess there's a history of bad blood here, but I didn't know. I'll just slowly back away....

    Esoteric Christianity

I know several people with a distinct bent toward esoteric spirituality. I've never sensed that they hold any sort of elitist point of view regarding their path. If anything it's the folks from established denominations who seem to want to hold themselves aloof and deny the possibility of any...

    Esoteric Christianity

Thanks Andrew. I read what you wrote and appreciated it very much. I've actually read HPB, Alice Bailey, and de Perucker. I was involved with a meditation group with a Theosophical bent for a while. It's all so very complex. After awhile there were just so, so many masters, and all I wanted...

    Reasonable faith

Just in general: I think the the Holy Spirit has to have something to work with. If one considers their own personal knowlege base and thought processes including their proconcieved notions and inherited programming as the strings of a musical instrument, I think that the Holy Spirit acts by...

    Reasonable faith

I don't see anything in the Genesis account of creation which suggests or implies that it is meant to be taken literally. We have an account of a hugely complex event, or process, contained within a very few words. I don't see how understanding it as a rich allegory, which seems the most...

    On J.Krishnamurthy....

I do understand. I'm a great admirer of Krishnamurti. What I'm suggesting, though, is that his experience with Theosophy, and his thought process in deciding to walk away were essential in forming his later philosophy. Without that experience he would not have come to that later realization.

    Esoteric Christianity

My main interest is in understanding my own thought processes. My skepticism arises from observing my own motivations, not picking apart others. I'm happy for anyone's good thing.

People tend to accept opinions which jibe with their preconceptions. The fact is that we don't have enough archaeological evidence to postively confirm or deny the historicity of the Old Testament. Those with a predisposition toward belief will accept opinions which shore up that belief...

    On J.Krishnamurthy....

I absolutely agree. Well sort of. Truth is not the capstone of any systematic, hierarchical approach. But fellowship among seekers and the sharing of ideas is necessary. How would Krishnamurti have become aware of the nature of truth without the exercise of considering that which he later...

    Esoteric Christianity

"If this inner doctrine was always concealed from the masses, for whom a simpler code had been devised, is it not highly probable that the exponents of every aspect of modern civilization--philosophical, ethical, religious, and scientific-are ignorant of the true meaning of the very theories and...

    Allowing child molesters in church?

There was a time when it was common for men to have sexual relations with very young girls. The Prophet Muhammed's wife Aisha was six when he took her in marriage, and nine when he consumated that marriage. This was not unusual at the time.
