    Matt 13 Parables

[color=black]I think what he is saying here is that those who understand will be given an abundance of wisdom, but to those who don't understand, they'll be left in utter confusion. I think that comment is sort of a prelude to his entire message. Maybe he was trying to make the crowd think...

    Prayer

I had a weird experience today... Normally, I only have that shiver-of-delight thing I talked about earlier when I'm praying...but today, I just kept on getting that, for no reason at all! Finally I gave in and said a short prayer (it was in the middle of class), and the shivering subsided...

    Rescuing the Bible

:D Yeah, well he's a twenty-first century person, and apparently you aren't, so he doesn't care what you have to say *snaps fingers*... (In reference to the previous quote: ) If you haven't noticed already, his comments toward his Episcopalian brothers in Africa really disturbed me...

    Rescuing the Bible

You don't think very highly of Bishop Spong, do you Faithful? :p

    Rescuing the Bible

Well, maybe God went to different cultures in different forms before to give them a slice of the pie, but my view is that Christianity contains the whole truth - and that culture only affected the imagery and poetry of the Bible, not the fundamental theological truths. Just my two cents...

    Rescuing the Bible

In Response to Star's Original Post: First of all, I wholeheartedly agree with Spong that Christianity is about the experience of Christ, and the love of God. Slavish adherence to the Bible can lead to a love of the law rather than the love of God, and so, as Christians, we should really be...

How much of the Nicene Creed to you agree to?

Eh? No, I genuinely forgot Constantine was at the Council of Nicea. Sorry...:(

How much of the Nicene Creed to you agree to?

Oh, I'm sorry! It was the Arian controversy, right? I forgot Constantine was there :p.....d'oh!

How much of the Nicene Creed to you agree to?

Christianity didn't even become the official religion in Rome until after Constantine, during the reign of Theodosius (sp?). Constantine promoted religious tolerance. In fact, Constantine didn't even officially become a Christian till he was on his death bed (he recieved his baptism right before...

    The Gospel of Gamliel

    That's mondo-bizarro. Why would anyone want Pilate saint-ified (that's a word - who said it wasn't?!)?

    Anti-love - Anti-Christ ?

That's really true. What was it Jesus said? We must have child-like faith if we wish to enter heaven (I don't have the exact quote, obviously ;)). In their innocence, children are closer to God than most adults. The same is true, I believe, of the mentally retarded - they are like the original...

    Anti-love - Anti-Christ ?

In response to Star's original post: I believe hate is unChristian, if that is what you mean... No. Judgement doesn't equate to hatred, Star. A jury doesn't convict a murderer because they hate him - they convict him because he is guilty. Agreed - except for that tidbit about love of the...

    False prophets.....

But wait, isn't prophecy one of the gifts the Holy Spirit give to people even today? Or has the Holy Spirit stopped giving that particular gift? Or does prophesying have nothing to do with being a true prophet (are there other attributes necessary to be a true prophet)? Does anyone know some...

    False prophets.....

Um, no. To be a false prophet, one must first make a false prophecy. And last I heard, Bush hasn't been making prophecies of any kind. So, that isn't even debatable. Now, will you please drop this issue, or take it Politics and Society, out of respect for other forum members' wishes?

    Prayer

That sentence really expressed what I've been feeling lately. A couple years ago, I fell away from my Christian faith. I turned to Neo-Paganism, and, in short, all became dark. Just this past year or so I've returned to my Christian roots, and since then, I've been taking little baby steps...

    False prophets.....

Errr...Adam and Eve, the fall from grace? We WERE perfect, once... Um, no, the church excluded certain scriptures due to their uncertain origins. And claiming Christianity has been manipulated by the early Church in order to 'dominate' people is highly offensive. This is amusing. Where did...

    Man superior to woman?

Lol, I was just talking to my dad about the myth of matriarchy before I read this. You put it down way better than I did... :p

    Polygamy/Polygyni/Plural Marriage

Ok, aside from religious reasons ("God didn't create Adam and Eve and Eve and Eve"), I can only think of one solid reason why polygamy is a bad idea. Its unfair to the poor. Simply put: poor men can't afford multiple wives, only the wealthy can. I mean, suppose you had five wives, and...
