    Paragraphs In Posts

Yup, it is. Ah, well. I'll just use Safari for the time being. Definitely weird, though.

    Paragraphs In Posts

Okay, it works just peachy in Safari (which I'm using now), so it must be an issue related to Firefox. Not sure what would be causing it, as this is the first time I've ever experienced the problem, and I post on a fair number of other boards. Maybe it's time to upgrade or something.

    Paragraphs In Posts

Firefox 1.0.6 on Mac OS 10.3.9. Maybe I'll try it on Safari and see if that works any better, though it would be a bit annoying to have to open a new browser every time I want to post here. Weird.

    Paragraphs In Posts

At the risk of sounding stupid, how do you enable separate paragraphs in posts? It seems that this board software doesn't recognize just hitting the return key a couple times to separate paragraphs or even get a line break; I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong, so how do I keep my posts from...

    Question about Shabbat...

"Shabbos goyim" really aren't in the spirit of keeping Shabbat, IMHO, but I'm not shomer Shabbos, so I guess it's not really my concern. Although I've had to be the Shabbos goy at my campus' Chabad house a couple of times when the power went out and someone had to help light candles in stuff...

    Question about Shabbat...

You're also not allowed to ask someone to turn them on for you; having a "Shabbos goy" who comes by and "independently" turns on the lights and such (that is, someone with whom you made arrangements prior to Shabbat), that's apparently okay, going by the letter of the law. I know virtually no...

Why Don't Jews Sacrifice Animals Anymore?

Not to mention that it's hell on the carpeting. Yeesh. Ahem.

    "Jew" Thoughts about the word...

Actually, I like that philosophy. It's true that saying "yiddn" or using other Yiddish and Hebrew phraseology can make someone assume that the speaker is frum. When it's obvious that they're not, it's definitely reclaiming a bit of the lingo for those of us who are of more liberal branches (I...

    "Jew" Thoughts about the word...

I'm another one who's never once heard of Jewish people referring to non-Jews as "dogs," ever. I'd like to see the source on this, as well. As Bananabrain says, there are a number of unflattering ways that the Talmud refers to non-Jews, but there are also unpleasant ways of referring to fellow...

    Conversion Help!

Oh, and to jump on the link train, you could also try the conversion forums at Beliefnet; there are people of all denominations there with a lot of good advice (though sometimes you get a bit of push-me pull-me about whether or not everyone should convert Orthodox). There's also a Livejournal...

    Conversion Help!

Hey, Maitri, I'm a Jew In Progress, so maybe I can try to address a few of your questions. To give a summary of my story, I was raised Episcopalian (aka Church of England, aka Catholic Lite, aka Henry VIII's divorce court); I was an acolyte in church, was confirmed and so on, but I never really...

The name of God In Judaism

Don't know if anyone's mentioned it, but the one I hear most often is "Hashem," which just means "the Name." Because according to traditional Jewish law (halacha), you're not supposed to use the "official" name of God in contexts other than prayer, a lot of people use it as a sort of nickname...
