    The WWII question

    That is exactly how racism starts, with historical revisionism. No need to apologize. We all understand where you are coming from. As a philosopher I can clearly see your racism, even when it is heavily veiled.

    Jew and atheist?

    Actually, Amica, your question is a good one. Take a look at these links and give us your opinion: Society for Humanistic Judaism - Home Page Humanistic Judaism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_atheism

    The Diaspora Need Not Apply

    Here is an interesting article I just came across: The New York Times > Log In Does anyone know anything about this issue or have any thoughts ? It looks like it might be a controversial issue. -Bert

    No Dogbrain, the problem here is not the assumption of logical necessity. It turns out to be logically necessary that one can only measure both the momentum and position of a particle to a limited certainty. That is why, until QM, Spinoza was correct, his logic was irrefutable. By the way...

    No need to fear, Dogbrain, Hume's logic is clear and understandable. {By the way, nice avatar, Native}

    Hi Linda. Wonderful ! Just terrific reading. So, who are your favorite philosophers ? { : - 0 } I love this spirit ! Now here is a real fighter !! Ummm, I think that makes four reasons (lol). I love this passion. It sounds like the Catholic Church is the Walmart of religion (lol). This...

    Right idea again, and great point. But the question it begs is not the one you asked, but: "how could someone so correct in his first observation be so wrong in his second" ? We have discussed the lack of understanding with respect to the physical world. There was too much not yet known...

    Right, this is an example of how our intuition can evolve to comprehend phenomena which is, in fact, rather non-intuitive. During the days of Heisenberg it was nearly impossible to imagine that any particles could behave in a non-deterministic manner.

    Actually, Dogbrain, you do have to "sail off into quantum mechanics (QM)" if you want to prove Spinoza wrong. Prior to QM Spinosa was for practical purposes correct. Before Heisenberg proved uncertainty we lived in a fully deterministic world. Heisenberg was the first to show that both the...

    Being July 4th weekend, a celebration of independence, I thought I would share with you some thoughts about free will. These are ideas from Spinoza: Is this a sound argument for rejection of free will ? If not, what are the logical fault(s) presented ? What is free will ? Does it mean that if...

    "This place is dangerous for trying to find truth"

    You are a brave poster, Salty, standing up for a poster who has been permanently banned. And especially for the heinous crime of "multiple personalities" :eek:. I do not know this poster, Avi, but I have read some of his posts, and he was certainly a believer in freedom. What better day, July...

    IMPORTANT: Server Hacked - spyware alert

    My Symantec virus software picked up a virus called: Guess-PC. I do not know exactly what this is, but my Symantec was apparently able to quarantine it. The strange thing is that my computer was apparently first exposed to this threat on June 6. I am a bit confused by that ? Google does not...

    Nick, thanks for this alert. I was able to enter the forum through another thread I found on Google. Do you think getting in to the forum means we will experience a high threat of picking up the spyware ?

    Good. This is a very rationalist approach, I like that. One can argue that the creator is either eternal or not. We have no way of knowing, in addition we have no way of knowing whether the creator exists or not. You really need to read some Al-Farabi.
