Looking at the number of dogs and cats in the city, actually, any given city, I think you are onto something.
I like animals and have had many dogs and cats over the years, but they were yard pets and didn't come into the house where they could spread their filth over everything.
Now, being in the city, there is no place for such creatures, so we don't have any. A few goldfish and a salamander, but they don't eat much.
The other day we were driving and went past a large delivery truck which to our surprise was a pet food delivery service, and the pictures of the food on the side made me salivate

Juicy cuts of beef, cooked to perfection covered in a peppercorn gravy and an array of other food which any person would be happy to serve to ....human guests, but this is a freakin pet food delivery van.
I think the Chinese are onto a good idea. put fido into a stir-fry....I have heard they are very good eating.
