Is this because I'm a n00b to the forum, or is it disabled site-wide for anti-advertising reasons?

Also, Hi! I'm Ashli! Nice to meet you! :)

Namaste Serentripity,

I like that Ashli...been there, done that, enjoyed it...

Welcome to I/O and it ain't because your a newbie, tis as you suspected, anti advertising...

tis a discussion site...

Namaste wil!

Good stuff - being in the webdesign/SEO field, I TOTALLY respect that! It's incredible how quickly forums that allow backlinking can go down the tubes... oh those crazy capitalists! LOL

Many thanks! :)

Oh, lordy - not another one. ;)

Signatures are disabled because too many people joined to get a sig link. Even though Google effectively killed signature links in Sept 2003. Unfortunately, a lot of the SEO world has not yet caught up with the fact. Then again, in 2003, mainstream SEO didn't even think links were important..."build and they will come" was the mantra. Nowadays, even links are not actually important - it's all about semantic relationships. I expect the SEO world will catch up in a few years time...

Welcome to the forums anyway, Ashli. :)

Links are not actually important? How so? The number of backlinks to your site still counts towards your Google ranking... doesn't it?

Way to turn my world upside-down, You, Brian! :p

Edit: Oh, wait - you mean in the sense of backlinks from non-related sites? Quality over quantity... I think I get what you mean, but I would still much appreciate some clarification, if you are willing to explain :)

Quality over quantity is definitely a starter - but it's not simply about related links, and trust & authority any more - but clear semantic relationships from a linkgraph perspective.

That means the connections between sites remains an important focus, but issues such as exact keyword links becoming less relevant.

Does that make any sense? :)
