Hey this is my second post ever here, I just posted an introduction in the "introductions section" but thought since I might end up haunting this section of the forums I'd post one here too.

My name's Chris and I'm a Christian who's just gotten back into studying the Kabbalah. I'm reading Rabbi Kaplan's commentary on the Sepher Yetzirah and it's absolutely amazing. I'm also slowly working through an anthology of Jacob Boheme and finding similarities between Boheme's writings on the Creation and the text of Sepher Yetzirah.

I've also been having dreams lately, ever since I started reading Sepher Yetzirah. In the first dream just after I started I dreamt I was enunciating the hebrew letters Alef, Mem, and Shin in different orders. then last night I had a dream I was meditating on Chachmah or trying to, it was very difficult to concentrate in the dream but my goal was to attain Chachmah Conciousness and it was every bit as hard as meditating in real life.

anyway that's my introduction here, I'm really eager to discuss this stuff if anyone wants to.

Chris,
...to really understand the SY (and Cabbalah) you either need to be a Jew (or at least understand the Hebrew language). To really understand the whole thing, you must first question your own motives to why, followed by some numerology and esoteric training. Do you wish to have a minimal understanding of the Jewish mysticism of creation (formation) or want to go deeper? As a Christian you will be forced to face certain unsettling tenets of the Cabbalah. Namely the form of YHVI, as most Christians you likely formed an understanding of g-d as a personal g-d , an anthropomorphic deity who acts out and feels, where the Cabbalistic god is more transcendental and non anthropomorphic concept. According to the Cabbalah (as I understand it) it is closer to infinity than an old, bearded angry man of the old testament. This is what I wrote on this if you wish to read more on my take...
Ani, YHVH, ADNI, Ribonno Shel Olam, Amen which is translated as

I am G-d, Lord Master Unto the Ages, [this is the]Truth

Good luck on your journey...
