Hundreds of Anglicans moving to Catholic church - Yahoo! News

Disaffected Church of England members and a number of priests are marking Ash Wednesday by taking a first step to joining the Roman Catholic Church.

They won't be able to receive the sacraments, however, until they are confirmed just before Easter.

Church officials haven't released numbers, but a Catholic magazine, The Tablet, has reported that 20 priests and 600 lay people are making the move.

They are joining the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, a unique grouping formally created by the Vatican in January. Those joining the ordinariate will be allowed to keep some of their Anglican customs and liturgy, and their priests will be able to be ordained to the Catholic priesthood even if they are married.

I welcome them. And on the other hand, I sympathize with their plight. Regardless of which way they choose (stay or go R Catholic), they must compromise in some ways and must feel like their anchor has let go...

Q,

I agree. We have to stick to our principles and move when our principles tell us to move. Congrats to these people for following their principles.

Yes - congratulations for these people sticking to a "mediaeval letter of the law" version of Christianity, instead of seeking to find the spirit of Christianity.

So ironic that you can quote Jesus verbatim about fighting mindless authority and judgement - and yet so many of his followers task themselves with exactly the opposite mantle!!

Jesus was condemned by the Pharisees for keeping company with the low-lifes of society - hookers, tax collectors, and drunks. So good to see the Anglican priesthood aiming to be anything but like Jesus!!
