Quran 96:1 4

The angel came to him and asked him to read. The Prophet replied, "I do not know how to read.
The Prophet added, "The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, 'I do not know how to read.' Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read but again I replied, 'I do not know how to read (or what shall I read)?' Thereupon he caught me for the third time and pressed me, and then released me and said, 'Read in the name of your Lord, who has created (all that exists) has created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous." (96.1, 96.2, 96.3)
Then Allah's Apostle returned with the Inspiration and with his heart beating severely. Then he went to Khadija bint Khuwailid and said, "Cover me! Cover me!" They covered him till his fear was over and after that he told her everything that had happened and said, "I fear that something may happen to me."

Quran 3:45 - 48 “When the angels said: ‘O Mary! Indeed God gives you glad tidings of a word (His saying, ‘Be’) from Him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, held in honor in this world and in the Hereafter, and of those nearest to God.

Gabriel is recognize as the noble, powerful archangel messenger of God, if God send Gabriel to appear to a subject Gabriel is familiar with the subject and is empower by God to deliver God's sacred message.

In those two verse it would seem that Gabriel are of two characters, Gabriel of Mohammed was aggressive, forceful, intimidating and did not know that Mohammed could not read and 3x he tried to force Mohammed to read with no success. Plus what is it that Gabriel wants Mohammed to read? Was there a book present or was something written on the walls of the cave? Mohammed got so terrified that he run away and he was sure that it was a demon it would be his wife that would convince him that is wasn't a demon. How did his wife knew did that Gabriel appeared to her too?

Gabriel that appear to Mary was very polite, assuring and knew Mary, Gabriel said the word of God and Mary got pregnant without a human father. That Gabriel is typical of the Gabriel of the Bible.

So who is the Gabriel of Mohammed? It is evident that there are two different Gabriel with two distinct characteristics.

Gabriel is not a particular entity, it simply means "empowered by God".

Angel itself simply means "messenger of God" or "bridge to God".

"el" is God in Hebrew.

I do not know in Arabic if this can also be concluded from what Muhammad says, but this is my understanding.

Each is merely an enlightened one, and the enlightened one has done these tasks which it was instructed so that a particular vessel could perform its work rightly.

Hi TG

there is only one Jibril [pbuh]

to understand the hugging tightly nature of jibril [as], one must understand that angels carry out the orders of Allah [swt], angels sometimes even grab the land on Allah's orders and shake it, thus causing an earthquake, but that dont mean they're agressive; all it means is that Allah dishes out the right type of treatment to his servants

it is said that with hardship comes ease and the more greater the prize, the more hardship it involves; it is not easy to receive divine revelations in one's heart; Moses fell unconcious when Allah [swt] first revealed revelation to him

thus what is it that made the Prophet [saw] stronger?

That embrace by jibril [as] transferred all the spiritual attributes from jibril [as] to the prophet [saw], without it decreasing from jibrils [as] spirituality, and this is what made recieving the revelation in the heart of the prophet [saw] possible; also there is the matter of the heart withstanding the spiritual meaning of the Quranic verses descending in the heart too, thus when the prophet [saw] could not read/recite, those tight hugs made it possible...

A baby is a great blessing, but while delivering the baby, Allah puts the mum through immense hardship, but does that mean Allah is agressive?; not at all, but there is great wisdom in mum undergoing that sort of pain and hardship while delivering the baby...

It is said that that which one undergoes suffering and hardship for, one has more love for it, such as a persons money will mean more to him if he earns it with hard work, rather than just sit at home and get it free from the dole

there is a story where a man went to the king with a donkey and said that his donkey talks, the king said ok if you can make it talk you can have such and such a reward; the donkey kept it's mouth shut so the king got his men to give the man a beating and throw him out; once out the donkey started taking; the man said what, you make me get beats and you never talk and now you talk; donkey apologises and says take me back this time i'll talk; so the man goes back and same thing happens...Man recieves beating and gets thrown out, then the donkey starts talking again, pleading that this time he will talk, so they go back and the third time donkey talks and man recieves bags of gold, then when the man questioned the donkey as to why he never talked the first two times, the donkey replied if you had got the money that easy, you'd never have that much love for it, but now that you have suffered for it, you'll have more love for it and spend it wisely!

So this could be one wisdom behind the hardship before the transferring of the most precious gift to mankind of all

Peace! :)

PS; the Prophet's [saw] confusion about what happened to him and his fears that he may have experienced a jinn [evil-spirit] only proves his sincerity and that he weren't making all this up in order to claim he was a Messenger of God; his wife reassured him saying ALlah would not do this to you, for you are a good person...; later one day when Jibril [as] made an appearance, the prophet [saw] informed his wife, his wife told him to sit in her lap, as he did, Jibril [as] left the room, his wife [ra] replied an angel will not remain in a room where a man and his wife starts to get intimate...; confusion and fears is natural for one who suddenly, out of the blue, experiences such things, and reassurance settles in slowly when the gnosis takes a steady hold of the heart...

One would think that Gabriel would have calm Mohammed and re-assured him that there is nothing to fear, but Gabriel's reaction was very aggressive instead of calming Mohammed he (Gabriel) gave Mohammed every reason to be terrified. As you have pointed out it would be his wife who will calm him down and Gabriel will appear again this time Mohammed was with his wife but his wife did not see Gabriel only Mohammed. Gabriel left after Mohammed told her that Gabriel is present and only Mohammed can see him.

Analysing the text, it would seem Mohammed's wife has a stronger spirit and her fearlessness must have been the cause of Gabriel to leave the room. She was certain it was a good angel and not a demon even though she did not experience Gabriel's presence. Gabriel did not spoke to her nor instructed her to calm Mohammed down.

Still, the contras of Gabriel-Mohammed and Gabriel-Mary is very evident, Gabriel-Mary was what Mohammed's wife describe what a good angel of Allah really is.

Weeks later, Mohammed's wife will die and Mohammed's encounter with that Gabriel did not get any better especially with the controversial Satanic verses.

The failure to see the distinct difference between Gabriel of Quran 96:1 4 and Gabriel of Quran 3:45 - 48 is astounding and mind bugling.

In other words the Gabriel of Mohammed is different from Gabriel of Mary. Gabriel-Mohammed is not enlighten because he failed to recognize Mohammed's illiteracy and kept on forcing Mohammed to the point that Mohammed got so terrified. While Gabriel of Mary is the enlighten he was very assuring, polite, knows all and was able perform a miracle through the power of Allah, Mary got pregnant without a human father.

If there is two Gabriel what does this mean to the revelation that Mohammed has received was it from Allah or was it from that Gabriel??

Mohammed was sincere as he had spend many times in the cave to pray and meditate it was the experience and the out of character Gabriel that terrified Mohammed, something that he was not expecting of from a good angel. That is why he run to away and told it to his wife. His wife who did not encounter the spirit didn't know but what she know is what Mohammed knew also that a good angel from God will not be scary or terrifying instead she blame Mohammed's weak spirit or for being scared. That Gabriel appear to Mohammed at their home but her wife did not see it, the spirit went away after his wife assured Mohammed not to be afraid and indirectly invoke God when she said that a good angel will not do this thus it was her faith in God that drove that Gabriel away. Coincidentally few weeks later she will pass away.

The difference of these two Gabriel are very evident base on these verses and should not be ignored but should be research further:

Quran 3:45-48
Plus, “When the angels said: ‘O Mary! Indeed God gives you glad tidings of a word (His saying, ‘Be’) from Him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, held in honor in this world and in the Hereafter, and of those nearest to God. He shall speak to people while still in the cradle, and in manhood, and he shall be from the righteous.’ She said, ‘My Lord, how can I have a son when no man has touched me?’ He said, ‘Even so, God creates what He pleases. When He decrees, He merely says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is. And He will teach him the Book and the Wisdom, and the Torah and the Gospel.”

Gabriel of Mary just invoke the words of God "Be" and Mary became pregnant. On the other hand Gabriel of Mohammed failed to invoke the words or power of God "Be" and 3x that Gabriel tried and failed he even resorted to use physical force this mean that Gabriel has taken some kind of material form in order to be able to physically squeeze Mohammed.

Down the road we will notice how Mohammed struggle between the good and evil spirit reference Satanic verses.

It would seem that Mohammed's preaching of peace, tolerance and respect are influence from the good Gabriel? And his Sura are influence by the bad Gabriel?

in your fanatasicm to prove Islam wrong, you are failing to use your common sense over this tg

the first word by the angel Jibril [as] could have been to let the Prophet [saw] know that the reason why he was being tightly hugged like that was for him to be enabled to recite and gather the revelations in his heart; the Prophet [saw] might not have caught onto this straight away, but later in reptrospect he would have been able to understand ... that first word was the first word of the Quran too that was revealed [Iqra; read] thus when Jibril [as] saw that the word did not penetrate his heart, remain there for good, and it's spiritual meaning be clarified in it too, he hugged, when it did not work the second time fully, he hugged again...the hugs were transferring Jibril's [as] lofty spiritual attributes to the Prophet [saw] ...

only Allah [swt] knows what lofty spiritual perpetual states the Prophet [saw] acheived in the next years; this is why when he went to that journey with Jibril [as] to the heavens, there was a point when jibril [as] could go no further, and only Muhammad [saw] went on to meet his Lord!

mary was the daughter of a prophet? or from a Prophets family and the religion of God was available in her time; she was allready a devout Muslim and she experienced miracles prior to the angel appearing...; food used to appear for her out of nowhere when she used to worship in seclusion in her temple, but yet when she first saw the angel in the shape of a man, she was frightened, but then she may have readily accepted, and if any doubts remained, then her miraculous pregnancy would have confirmed it:

Allah the Almighty said:

[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Italic]"Allah chose Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham and the family of Imran above the Alamin (mankind and jinns)(of their times). Offspring, one of the other, and Allah is All-Hearer, All-Knower.[/FONT]
[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Italic]Remember when the wife of Imran said: "O my Lord! I have vowed to You what (the child that) is in my womb to be dedicated for Your services (free from all worldly work; to serve Your Place of worship), so accept this, from me. Verily, You are the All-Hearer, the All Knowing."[/FONT]
[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Italic]Then when she delivered her (child Mary), she said: "O my Lord! I have delivered a female child," and Allah knew better what she delivered, - "and the male is not like the female, and I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge with You (Allah) for her and for her offspring from [/FONT][FONT=TimesNewRoman,Italic]Satan, the outcast."[/FONT]

[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Bold]Mary's Sustenance - Quranic[/FONT]

So her Lord (Allah) accepted her with goodly acceptance. He made her grow in a good manner and put her under the care of Zechariah. Every time he entered Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room), he found her supplied with sustenance.
[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Italic]A[/FONT]s Allah recounted in the Glorious Quran:

[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Italic]She said: "From Allah. Verily, Allah provides sustenance to whom He wills, without limit." (Ch 3:37 Quran)[/FONT]

[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Bold]Mary's Family History[/FONT]

Allah declared that He had elected Adam (pbuh) and the elite of his offspring who obey Allah. Then He specified the family of Abraham (pbuh), which includes the sons of Ishmael (pbuh), and the family of Imran, the father of Mary.

While Mary was praying in her temple, an angel in the form of a man appeared before her. Filled with terror, she tried to flee, praying:

[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Italic]"Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allah) from you, if you do fear Allah."[/FONT]
[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Italic]The angel said: "I am only a Messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son."[/FONT]

[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Italic]She said: "How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, nor am I unchaste?"[/FONT]
[FONT=TimesNewRoman,Italic]He said: "So (it will be), your Lord said: "That is easy for me (Allah): And (We wish) to appoint him as a sign to mankind and a mercy from Us (Allah), and it is a matter (already) decreed, (by Allah).'" (Ch 19:18-21 Quran)[/FONT]

Mary needed no hugs; she allready had a deep gnosis and she was not about to recieve divine revelations in her heart

The Prophet [saw] prior to his prophethood was in the dark about Gods religion apart from that the idols were not worth worshipping for they were obviously man-made peaces of stones, and that Allah should only be worshipped; but he worshipped in his own way not having any further spiritual insight, for the religion of God had all but dissapeared in Arabia for hundreds of years, thus what he suddenly experienced was likey to alarm him; jinn experiences were not that uncommon too, but meeting an angel was virtually unheard of; also the Prophet [saw] might have seen jibril [as] in the shape of an angel rather than in a man; there is a report that after the initial meeting, he thought he was going crazy and couldn't bear to be considered as a mad-man so he was going to end it all by jumping of the cliff, but just then he heard a voice, looked towards the sky and everywhere he looked there on the horizon was the angel jibril saying oh Muhammad, you are the messenger of Allah and i am Jibril; so the Prophet's [saw] experience cannot really be equated with that of mary

Jibril [as] visited muhammad [saw] on and off many times for the next 23 years; once he even took him to a tour of the heavens, and ultimately to meet ALLAH [swt] Himself...thus to make a long story short, Jibril [as] was not an evil-spirit; Allah sent the satan to the Prophet [saw] too, and i'll narrate that account below

Also not only Jibril [as] brought down the Quranic verses; some were revealed to him by inspiration and some direct by Allah conversing with Muhammad [saw]

Just think about the miracle and wonder that the Quran is; the wonderfully ethical and consistent, congrous guidance it contains, warning in it many times not to follow the footsteps of the satan; enjoining charity to the poor, assisting the needy, kindness to parents, leaving of all filthy harmfull stuff and enjoining everything good, worshipping the one and only God of the heavens alone; surely all of that cannot be from an evil-spirit?; rather than get lost in little picky details my friend, look at the big picture...

Peace

ps; the Prophet [saw] was cast a spell on once; he used to see double vision during then, but he was inspired by Allah to get to the root of the cause and undo it; a woman had tied [some of his?] hair in knots and put it in the bottom of the pond or something; those knots were undone and the Prophet [saw] was cured ...

As reported by Mu’adh ibn Jabal (r.a.). Abd-Allah the son of `Abbas (r.a.) said: “We were sitting together in a group with the Apostle of Allah (PBUH) in the house of one of the Ansar, when someone called out ‘O people of the house! Will you permit me to enter? I have a task to fulfill for you’. “

“Do you know who the caller is?” asked the Apostle of Allah (PBUH). “Allah and His Apostle knows best.” They said. So the Apostle of Allah (PBUH) told them: “This is Satan, the Cursed One whom Allah has dammed.”

“Let me kill him, O Apostle of Allah !(PBUH)” said Umar ibn al Khattab (r.a.), but the Prophet (PBUH) said: “Gently, Umar. Do you not realize that he is among those granted respite until the Appointed Day? Instead, open the door for him, for he is under command. Understand what he says and listen to what he has to tell you.”

Abd-Allah son of `Abbas (r.a.) continued: “So the door was opened for him and he entered to join them. He was an old man, blind in one eye and with only very thin hair growing on his face. His beard consisted of seven hairs like those of the horse, and his eyes were set vertically. His head was like that of a great elephant, his eye-teeth protruded like the tusks of a boar, and his lips were like those of a bull.”

“Peace be upon you, Muhammad.” He said, “and peace be upon you, O gathering of Muslims.” “Peace is of Allah (SWT), Cursed One,” said the Prophet (PBUH). “I have heard. What is your desire?”

“Muhammad,” he said to him, “I did not come to you of my own accord, but rather because I was forced to do so.”

“And what is that, that forced you, Cursed One?” asked the Prophet (PBUH).

Satan replied, “An angel came to me from the Exalted Lord and told me, ‘Allah Most High orders you to come to Muhammad (PBUH). Be humble, abject and unpretentious; tell him how you deceive and mislead the sons of Adam (AS), and answer truthfully any question he asks you. By my might and glory, if you tell him a single lie or fail to be truthful with him, I will turn you into ashes for the winds to blow away, and your enemies will gloat at your misfortune.’ So I have come to you as I was ordered, Muhammad. Ask me anything you want, for if I do not respond truthfully to what you ask me my enemies will gloat at my misfortune, and nothing is there more unbearable than the gloating of one’s enemies.”

“If you be sincere,” said the Apostle of Allah (PBUH), “then tell me – who among men do you most hate?”

“You Muhammad,” replied Satan, “and those like you are to me the most hated of Allah’s (SWT) Creatures.”

“What else do you hate?” the Prophet (PBUH) asked.

“The devoted youth who dedicates his soul to Allah Almighty.”

“And then who?”

“A pious learned man I know to be patient.”

“And then who?”

“He who remains pure through three prayers.”

“And then who?”

“A patient pauper, if he speaks of his poverty to no one and does not complain of his plight.”

“And how do you know him to be patient?”

“Muhammad, if he complained of his plight to another, created as he is, for three consecutive days, Allah (SWT) would not record for him the merit allotted to the patient.”

“And then who?”

“The rich man who is thankful.”

“And how do you know him to be thankful?” asked the Prophet (PBUH).

“When I see him take the right thing and put it in the right place.”

Then the Prophet (PBUH) asked, “What happens to you when my people rise for prayer?”

“Muhammad,” he replied, “I am afflicted by fever and trembling.”

“Why Cursed One?”

“Because when the worshiper prostrates himself before Allah (SWT), Allah (SWT) raises him a step.”

“And when they fast?”

“I am fettered until they lapse.”

“And when they make the pilgrimage?”

“I become insane.”

“And when they read the Qur`an?” “I melt, as lead melts over the fire.”

“And when they give alms?”

“It is as if the almsgiver had taken a saw and cut me in two.”

“And why is that, Abu Murra (father of bitter)?”, asked the Prophet (PBUH).

“In almsgiving there are four benefits,” he said; “and they are that Allah Almighty sends down blessing on all his possessions, endears him to His Creation, makes his offering a screen between him and the Fire, and through it defends him from infirmities and disasters.”

[What do you say of Abu Bakr Siddiq? * omitted *]

“He did not submit to me in the days of ignorance, Muhammad, so how could he do so under Islam?”

“And what say you of `Umar ibn al-Khattab?” “By Allah (SWT), I never encountered him without fleeing from him.”

“And what say you of `Uthman ibn Affan?”

“I feel ashamed before one whom the angels of the Merciful feel ashamed.”

“And what say you of `Ali ibn Abi Talibi?”

“Would Allah (SWT) that I were secure from him head for head; he would leave me alone and I would leave him alone. But that he has never done.”

“Praise be to Allah (SWT), who has made my community felicitous and you wretched until the Appointed Day,” said the Apostle of Allah (PBUH).

But Satan, the Cursed One, said to him, “Alas, how wrong you are! Where is the felicity of your community while I live and die not until the Appointed Day?” How can you be pleased with your community while I enter them through the bloodstream and flesh and they recognize me not? By He who created me and granted me respite until the day when they are called forth, I shall tempt them all, ignorant and learned, illiterate and literate, blasphemer and worshiper, except for the sincerely devoted worshipers of Allah (SWT).”

“And who, according to you, are the sincerely devoted ones?”

“Do you not know, Muhammad, that he who cherishes the dirham and dinar is not sincerely devoted to Allah Almighty? When I see a man who loves neither dirham nor dinar, nor flattery nor praise, I know that he is sincerely devoted to Allah Almighty and so leave him alone. But as long as the worshiper cherishes wealth and flattery, and his heart is preoccupied with worldly desires, he will be more submissive than I could possibly describe to you. Do you not know that the love of wealth is one of the most heinous sins of all, Muhammad; and that the lust for power is one of the most heinous sins of all; and that pride is one of the most heinous sins of all? Do you not know, Muhammad, that I have 70,000 sons, each of whom has 70,000 devils? Among these are those I assign to the learned men, those I assign to young men, those I assign to old men, those I assign to old women – as for the young women, there is no disagreement between us and them; and as for the boys, the [devils] play with them as they choose – those I assign to worshipers, and those I assign to ascetics. They enter among them and drive them out from station to station and gate to gate until they beguile them by one means or another; they deprive them of sincerity, so they worship Allah Almighty insincerely and yet do not realize it.”

“Do you not know, Muhammad, that the monk Barisa devoted seventy sincere years to Allah (SWT), to the point that he could cure by his invocation anyone who was ill; yet I did not abandon him until he had fornicated, murdered and apostatized. He is the one to whom Allah Almighty referred in His Glorious Book when He said: ‘Like Satan, when he said to Man, “Disbelieve;” then, when he disbelieved, he said, “Surely I fear Allah (SWT), the Lord of the Worlds.’”2

“Do you not know, Muhammad, that lying is my doing, that I was the first to lie, and that whoever lies is my friend and whoever swears falsely in Allah’s (SWT) name is my beloved? Do you not know, Muhammad, that in Allah’s (SWT) name I swore to Adam and Eve (AS). ‘For Allah’s sake, surely I am one of your sincerest advisors.’ The lying oath is the joy of my heart; slander and defamation are my fruits and my delight; and bearing false witness brings pleasure and satisfaction to my eye.”
“He who swears divorce is on the brink of sin, even if he does so only once, or acts in good faith. The wife of him whose tongue has grown accustomed to divorce is forbidden to him; but they do not cease to beget children until the Resurrection Day, and all of those will be children of adultery and will enter the Fire for the sake of a word.”

“Muhammad, in your community there are those who postpone the prayer an hour or so. Every time he wants to rise for prayer, I stand by him and whisper wicked suggestions to him and tell him, ‘There is still time; you are busy,’ until he puts off the prayer and performs it at other than its appointed time, for which it is flung back in his face. If he defeats me I send to him one of the devils of mankind to delay him beyond the time for prayer, and if he defeats me in that, I leave him alone until he is praying and then say to him, ‘Look to the right and left.’ So he looks, and as he does so I stroke his face with my hand, kiss him between the eyes and tell him, ‘Surely you have done what can never be forgiven.’ And you yourself know, Muhammad, that Allah (SWT) flings back in his face the prayer of one who keeps looking around as he performs it.”

“If he defeats me in the prayer and is praying alone, I tell him to hurry; he pecks at the prayer like a rooster pecks at seeds, and rushes through it. If he defeats me and is praying in a group, I hold him back with a bridle, raise his head before the Imam and lower it before the Imam. And you yourself know, Muhammad, that the prayer of one who does that counts for nothing, and on the Resurrection Day Allah (SWT) will turn his head into that of an ass.”

“And if he defeats me in that, I tell him to crack his knuckles during the prayer, so that he becomes one of my worshipers as he prays. And if he defeats me in that I blow into his nose until he yawns while he prays, and if he does not put his hand over his mouth the devil enters his stomach, making him increasingly greedy for and fond of things of the world, and attentive and submissive to me.”

“And is there any felicity for your community while I order the poor to stop praying, telling him, ‘Prayer is not your obligation, but rather the obligation of him to whom Allah (SWT) has shown favour,’ and telling the sick, ‘Stop praying; it is not your obligation, but rather the obligation of him whom Allah (SWT) has favoured with good health, for Allah Almighty has said:

“There is no fault in the sick.”3

When you recover you will pray as you should,’ so that he dies as an apostate. And when he dies having abandoned prayer in his illness, he meets Allah Almighty and Allah (SWT) is displeased with him.”

“If I have lied or digressed, Muhammad, ask Allah (SWT) to turn me into ashes. Can you rejoice in your community, Muhammad, when I have diverted a sixth of it from the path of Islam?”

“Cursed One,” asked the Prophet (PBUH), who is your table companion?”

“The usurer.”

“And who is your friend?”

“The fornicator.”

“And your bedfellow?”

“The drunkard.”

“Who is your guest?”

“The thief.”

“And who is your envoy?”

“The sorcerer.”

“What is refreshing to your eye?”

“He who swears divorce.”

“And who is your beloved?”

“The one who abandons the Friday prayer.”

“Cursed One,” said the Apostle of Allah (PBUH), “What breaks your back?”

“The whinnying of the horses in the cause of Allah (SWT).”

“And what wastes away your body?”

“The repentance of the contrite (shameful).”

“And what inflames your liver?”

“Frequent seeking of Allah’s (SWT) forgiveness by night and day.”

“What embarrasses you?”

“Giving alms in secret.”

“What blurs your vision?”

“The dawn prayer.”

“What bridles your head?”

“Frequent prayer in a group.”

“And who, according to you, is the happiest of men?”

“He who deliberately abandons prayer.”

“And which men, according to you, are the most wretched?”

“The thrifty.”

“What distracts you from your work?”

“The councils of the learned.”

“And how do you eat?”

“With the fingers of my left hand.”

“Where do you go to shelter your sons in times of fiery winds and sandstorms?”

“Under the fingernails of men.”

Then the Prophet (PBUH) asked, “How many needs have you asked your Lord to grant you?”

“Ten things.”

“And what are they, Cursed One?”

“I asked Him to let me share in the wealth and children of the sons of Adam (AS), so He made me their associate when He said: ‘And share with them in their wealth and their children, and promise them. But Satan promises them naught, except delusion.’5

I feed on any ill-gotten fortune, and also on any source of sustenance associated with usury or other forbidden practices, on any wealth from which he does not seek protection from Satan the Cursed, and on anyone who does not seek protection during intercourse. When he enters his wife the devil enters with her, and the child is born attentive and submissive to me. And whoever rides the beast of burden in search of anything not permissive has me for a comrade, as in the Word of the Almighty: ‘And rally against them thy horsemen and thy foot.’”6

“I asked Him to make for me a home, and it was the bathhouse. I asked Him to make for me a mosque, and it was the bazaars. I asked Him to make for me a call to prayer, and it was the sound of flutes. I asked Him to make for me a bedfellow, and he was the drunkard. I asked Him to make for me some servants, and they are the abilitarians. I asked Him to make for me some companions, and He said: ‘Those whose fortunes are squandered in sin.’ And then recited His verse: ‘The squanderers are brothers of Satan.’”7

“Were you not offering me verification in verses of the Book of Allah Almighty for every word,” said the Prophet (PBUH), “I would not believe you.”

“Muhammad, he said, “I asked Allah Almighty that I may see the sons of Adam (AS) while they see me not, so He caused me to flow in their veins like blood and granted my soul the freedom to roam as I wish. If I want something within the hour, Allah Almighty says, ‘You shall have what you seek,’ and of that I can boast until Resurrection day. Those with me are more numerous than those with you, and most of the progeny of Adam (AS) are with me until the Resurrection day.”

continued below

“I have a son whom I call ‘Atama; he urinates in the ear of the worshiper if he sleeps through the evening prayer, and were it not for that people would not fall asleep until they had performed the prayer. I have a son whom I call Mutaqadi; when a believer privately performs a pious deed and wants to keep it secret, he never stops trying to drag it out of him in front of others until he tells people about it. Allah Almighty thus cancels ninety-nine of the hundred merits and there remains for him only one, since for every good deed done in secret he gains one hundred merits. And I have a son whom I call Kahil; it is he who lines the eyes of the people with kohl in the councils of the learned and during the orator’s address, until they fall asleep while listening to the words of the scholars. Thus Allah (SWT) never records merits for them. No woman goes out without a devil sitting at her backside and another at her privates; they make her attractive to those who see her and tell her, ‘Stretch forth your hand.’ When she does so, her fingertips are exposed and she is disgraced.”

Then he said, “Muhammad, I have nothing to do with misguidance; rather I am a whisperer of wicked suggestions and a tempter. If misguidance was within my grasp, I would leave no one on the face of the earth saying ‘There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah,’ or fasting or praying. Similarly, you have nothing to do with guidance, but are an apostle and a messenger. If guidance was within your grip, you would leave no unbeliever on the face of the earth. You are Allah’s (SWT) proof among His creation, and I am the reason given to one whose misery is foreordained. The happy man is the one whom Allah (SWT) made so in his mother’s womb, and the miserable man is the one whom Allah (SWT) made so in his mother’s womb.”

Then the Apostle of Allah (PBUH) recited the Word of the Almighty: ‘But they continue in their differences, excepting those on whom thy Lord has mercy;’8

and then: ‘And Allah’s (SWT) command is doom decreed.”9

With that the Prophet (PBUH) said, “Abu Murra, turn from sin and return to Allah Almighty, and I will be your guarantee of Paradise.”

“Muhammad,” he replied, “it has been decided, and the pen is dry from recording how things will be until the Resurrection Day. So praised be He who made you the master of the prophets and the preacher to the people of Paradise, singled you out and loved you, and made me the master of the damned and preacher to the people of the Fire, cursed me and banished me. This is all I have to say to you, and indeed, I have done so in good faith.”

[Notes]:

1. Abu Murra, ‘father of Murra (bitter)’, was one of Satan’s surnames, in this case deriving from his athering of a girl with this name.

2. According to the traditional account, Barisa was entrusted with custody of the ill sister of three brothers who were leaving the country for a time. Tempted by Satan, Barisa seduces her, and then kills her upon discovering that she was with child. The brothers return, and Barisa tells them the girl died a natural death. Satan, however, reveals the truth to them, and then goes to the terrified monk and offers to save him if he will denounce Allah (SWT) and swear loyalty to Satan. Barisa complies, whereupon Satan mocks him with these words from Surat al-Hashr (56:16). The story and its literary development are discussed in useful articles in both editions of the Encyclopaedia of Islam, q.v. Barisa.

in your fanatasicm to prove Islam wrong, you are failing to use your common sense over this tg

the first word by the angel Jibril [as] could have been to let the Prophet [saw] know that the reason why he was being tightly hugged like that was for him to be enabled to recite and gather the revelations in his heart; the Prophet [saw] might not have caught onto this straight away, but later in reptrospect he would have been able to understand ... that first word was the first word of the Quran too that was revealed [Iqra; read] thus when Jibril [as] saw that the word did not penetrate his heart, remain there for good, and it's spiritual meaning be clarified in it too, he hugged, when it did not work the second time fully, he hugged again...the hugs were transferring Jibril's [as] lofty spiritual attributes to the Prophet [saw] ...

only Allah [swt] knows what lofty spiritual perpetual states the Prophet [saw] acheived in the next years; this is why when he went to that journey with Jibril [as] to the heavens, there was a point when jibril [as] could go no further, and only Muhammad [saw] went on to meet his Lord!

mary was the daughter of a prophet? or from a Prophets family and the religion of God was available in her time; she was allready a devout Muslim and she experienced miracles prior to the angel appearing...; food used to appear for her out of nowhere when she used to worship in seclusion in her temple, but yet when she first saw the angel in the shape of a man, she was frightened, but then she may have readily accepted, and if any doubts remained, then her miraculous pregnancy would have confirmed it:

According the the Quran the spirit only started hugging Mohammed when Mohammed said he can not read and the hug was so tight that Mohammed could not breath not only that if the hug was to make Mohammed read, it surely did not work.

It is not about saying Islam is wrong it is about learning if Islam is the true religion of God as being aggressively and strongly claim by Muslims since it’s founding in the 7th century by a man name Mohammed or is it just another religion?

If Islam is the true religion of God then the Quran should be flawless without any conflict or questionable verses or the need to abrogate verses one verse from the other. Why would Muslims adapt abrogation if the revelation was indeed from Allah?

We already see in the beginning the inconsistency with the characteristics of Gabriel that appear to Mohammed and Gabriel that appear to Mary. The difference is very evident and it would seem base on the Quran narration the uncharacteristic of Gabriel - Mohammed clearly show that it is not the same Gabriel of Mary.

Muslims are explaining the narration of the Quran out of context insisting that there is no inconsistency between the Gabriel-Mohammed and Gabriel-Mary.

Examining the context it is clear that Gabriel ask Mohammed to read this mean there was a written document or book present. Mohammed was not totally scare in the beginning that is why he stayed to find out what the spirit wants from him it was only after Gabriel started to squeeze him when he told Gabriel he can not read. Because Mohammed felt that this is not how a good angel should act he got terrified because if he would have stayed any longer he fear he might die because the squeezing was so intense that he felt his heart was to pop out.

3x Gabriel try to make Mohammed read and 3x he failed unlike the Gabriel of Mary, Gabriel just utter the message of Allah “Be” and miraculously Mary became pregnant without a human father. One would think that Gabriel of Mohammed would have successfully done the same thing when he invoke the power of Allah upon Mohammed with the words “READ”.

Another questionable aspect is the abrogation law, Muslims have adapted the rule of abrogation in order to settle any conflict of verses. Why would there be conflict of verses on the first place if Mohammed‘s revelation was truly from Allah? The rule of abrogation stated that verses that came later will supersedes verses of previous revelations. The issue would seem that many early revelations teaches tolerance, freedom of religion, peace and justice. While the later parts of revelations consist mostly of none tolerance, force conversion, and lots of violence against none believer and apostates.

Gabriel-Mary is more consistent with the Bible Gabriel and other angels that appear to humans, the angels that appear to Lot, Daniel, Mary and the shepards were all very polite, all knowing and very reassuring.

To be accurate the Qur'an does not say this.. It is Hadith of Bukhari.. but let's assume it occurred as Bukhari related it.

First let's look at the verses of the Qur'an Surih al-'Alaq Aya 1-5:

Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-
Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:
Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,-
He Who taught (the use of) the pen,-
Taught man that which he knew not.

( A. Yusuf Ali)

Now consider that there is a similarity to a Biblical text found in Jeremiah 1:6-8

6 Then I said, “Alas, Lord [a]GOD!
Behold, I do not know how to speak,
Because I am a youth.”
7 But the LORD said to me,
“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’
Because everywhere I send you, you shall go,
And all that I command you, you shall speak.
8 “Do not be afraid of them,
For I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.

In both cases Prophet Muhammad was illiterate and Jeremiah did not know how to speak as he was a youth..

What about the account of Bukhari that Prophet Muhammad was being "hugged".. Another angelic visitation is recorded in the Bible..

The Biblical text has:

And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.... And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

- Genesis 32:24-31

See:

So the Angel of the Lord has not only "hugged" but wrestled...

My own belief is that these should be taken in symbolic ways, and that "wrestling with the Spirit" or the chest being compressed could be related.

But I think it does show that the Qur'an is certainly in the same spirit as the Bible..

here is the difference in Quran as narrated Gabriel 3x try to make Mohammed READ and 3x he failed plus 3x Mohammed said he can not read. It also said Gabriel squeeze Mohammed 3x hard that terrified Mohammed so Mohammed run away.

Comparing this the Bible Jeremiah 1 :4 -12
4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
6 “Alas, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.”
7 But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD.
9 Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”
11 The word of the LORD came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?”
“I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied.
12 The LORD said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”

Jeremiah answered the God that he is just a youth meaning he is too young to be able to speak like a leader for the people to listen to him not too young to be able to speak it is obvious that Jeremiah can speak. And when the Lord bless him Jeremiah was able to articulate well and became the Lords messenger. Plus, the Lord did not frighten Jeremiah or get rough with him, the Lord just like Gabriel of Mary was very reassuring and was able to perform a miracle.

In Genesis 32:24-31, if you read the text, Jacob wrestle a man whom he was able to over power, Jacob was not scared or terrified and the man whom Jacob believe is God bless Jacob, but was it God or was it God's angel? The text did not say most likely it was an angel and not God.

Comparing this with Quran-Gabriel of Mohammed we can see the huge difference in the Bible two example both Jeremiah and Jacob were not scared or terrified and in Jacob's case his faith is what prevail in the wrestling match. Mohammed on the other hand the spirit failed to calm Mohammed down, failed to perform God's miracle "READ" and what is it that the spirit wants Mohammed to read from? While the Gabriel-Mary of the Quran is more comparable to the Bible Gabriel and God when ever they appear to their subjects.

Genesis 19:1 1And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;

Daniel 9:24-27 Here Gabriel appear to Daniel and just like the other verses of the Bible, Gabriel was very polite and knew what he was doing, Daniel was not terrified.

Luke 2:8 -20[8] And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. [9] An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. [10] But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. [11] Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. [12] This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."

[13] Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

[14] "Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
[15] When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."

Again the angels told the shepherds "don't be afraid" and their fears went away.

Muslims have been very adamant that the Bible is corrupt and are strong in declaring that Islam is the true pure religion and that what is written in the Quran is what it is, if it is what is written then clearly there exist this conflict plus it was Mohammed's wife who calm Mohammed and assured him that it was Gabriel, how did she know she did not saw nor did Gabriel appear to her.
Quran to be a true religion more true than Christianity it should be absent of any faults, conflict of verses, flaws or questions but as we can clearly see it it is hardly perfect.

And this is just one issue there are still many other issues about Islam that conflicts with ethical values, factual history and practical common sense such as the rule of abrogation.

I think Islam is just a religion and Muslims have every right to follow it.

Actually I did check on that too and strange that it would have three meanings, and I guess the official translation that was adapted for English is READ. Even though we include all three possible meanings which are READ< RECITE and PROCLAIM, Mohammed's answer would still be the same, I can't, I can't and I can't. Plus Gabriel would still hug him or squeeze him very tight to make him read, recite or proclaim.

It still raise the question, what is it that Mohammed can not recite or can not proclaim? And why couldn't Gabriel make it happen even though Gabriel tried 3x?

The Gabriel-Mary has no problem because it was taken from the Bible story, Muslims accept some materials in the Bible as not corrupt things that they have included in the Quran and discarded stuff from the Bible and not include them in their Quran that they claim are corrupt. Gabriel is one of the materials that Muslims consider not corrupted. But the story of Mary and Gabriel has been modified excluding many things that the Bible has written about such as Gabriel proclaiming Jesus is the Son of God, Mary and Joseph. But Muslims in general accept the characteristic of Gabriel as the archangel, pure, noble, all knowing, and powerful.

The reason why Gabriel-Mohammed has a different characteristic because it was not taken or reference to the Gabriel-Bible.

Could it be that Gabriel acted differently at different times to produce the desired effect? Mary and Mohammed are very different people and have different purpose. I wouldn't know to what end but is it so strange that someone/thing are very different in different situations? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jesus treat different people differently?

In other words the Gabriel of Mohammed is different from Gabriel of Mary. Gabriel-Mohammed is not enlighten because he failed to recognize Mohammed's illiteracy and kept on forcing Mohammed to the point that Mohammed got so terrified. While Gabriel of Mary is the enlighten he was very assuring, polite, knows all and was able perform a miracle through the power of Allah, Mary got pregnant without a human father.

If there is two Gabriel what does this mean to the revelation that Mohammed has received was it from Allah or was it from that Gabriel??

For me, the Gabriel of Muhammad has served an equal purpose to that of Mary: they have prepared the way. Mary had to perform the duties of a mother, this is echoed in the encounter, it is very loving. Muhammad would have to unite the tribes of Arabia, and engage in much war to position his ministry. This Gabriel has prepared him just as fittingly, by creating an environment that forces him to encounter fear directly and overcome it.

Does the Quran not say "Nothing exists save Allah"? God is every actor, every prop, and the director. It is all from Him, we merely do not perceive that we are animated automatically, we do not perceive that our thoughts are not our own. Mansur Al-Hallaj is an example of a Muslim killed for proclaiming truth, so my words are dangerous for you. Follow the example Muhammad set, meditate on the nature of God, but be quiet about what you find if you are in a Muslim country.

I agree, Gabriel wouldn't have been ignorant to Muhammads illiteracy, he will have known Muhammad was aware of what must be declared already. Muhammad was not yet willing, however, he has not yet utterly accepted what has happened to him.

At this point, certainly no more than a Satori has happened... he retains identification with the past, with his former self.

The characteristic of Gabriel-Mary of Islam is similar to Gabriel of the Bible that appear to Mary, Daniel and Zechariah.

Luke 1:11 - 23
11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. 12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear.
13 But the angel said to him: “Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.
14 He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth,
15 for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born.
16 He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God.
17 And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

18 Zechariah asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am an old man and my wife is well along in years.”

19 The angel said to him, “I am Gabriel. I stand in the presence of God, and I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news.

20 And now you will be silent and not able to speak until the day this happens, because you did not believe my words, which will come true at their appointed time.”

21 Meanwhile, the people were waiting for Zechariah and wondering why he stayed so long in the temple. 22 When he came out, he could not speak to them. They realized he had seen a vision in the temple, for he kept making signs to them but remained unable to speak.

With one word, Gabriel took away Zechariah's ability to speak.

Daniel 8:16 - 19
16 And I heard a man’s voice from the Ulai calling, “Gabriel, tell this man the meaning of the vision.”

17 As he came near the place where I was standing, I was terrified and fell prostrate. “Son of man,” he said to me, “understand that the vision concerns the time of the end.”

18 While he was speaking to me, I was in a deep sleep, with my face to the ground. Then he touched me and raised me to my feet.

19 He said: “I am going to tell you what will happen later in the time of wrath, because the vision concerns the appointed time of the end.

Gabriel appear to Daniel same thing, at first Daniel was scared but Gabriel was able to calm him down just like Zechariah and Mary was scared at first and was successfully calm down.

Not only Gabriel but Michael the archangel have the same characteristic with Gabriel, calm, polite, all knowing and has miraculous powers.

The reason why Gabriel-Mary of Islam has the same characteristic of Gabriel-Bible is because it was taken from the Bible. While Gabriel-Mohammed was not, it was the first part of the Quran that reveal the encounter of the spirit that they thought was Gabriel that is why the narration of the characteristic of Gabriel-Mohammed is not the same as that of Gabriel-Mary of Islam. Muslims accept parts of he Bible as not corrupt and parts as corrupt one of the parts that Muslims accept as not corrupt is Gabriel, in fact if Muslims have at least accepted 90% of the Bible as not corrupt they'll probably have resolve this Gabriel issue long time ago and recognize that the spirit that appear to Mohammed was not Gabriel.

Jesus Christ has taken human form with all the human attributes he reacts to different characteristic of every individuals he knows how to deal with soldiers, the Pharisees, Pontius Pilate, Herald, angry crowd, weeping women, the sick, the blind, the doubters, etc. Jesus message has been very consistent and that is the Kingdom of God is not of this world and that everyone are children of God.
