Wil mentioned this test of religious/spiritual beliefs in one of the introductions. I'm a sucker for these things, even though I have little belief in their accuracy most of the time.

Just for chuckles, how's about we all take the test and tell the group the results. Here's the link:

Belief-O-Matic - Beliefnet.com

(no wonder thomas and I butt heads...our discussion over the years has moved RCC lower!!)

I was unable to answer most of the questions.

I don't find my beliefs very helpful, actually.

Taking the NLP model originated by Dilts and Bateman, beliefs come between "Identity" and "Capabilities".
Dilts' Logical Levels | SkillsYouNeed

If I allow my beliefs to affect my capabilities and skills they are going to encourage the development of some capabilities , but be a limitation on the development of many others. e.g. "I can't paint" - heard by many a badly-taught schoolchild.

If I allow my identity to be influenced by my beliefs, then I "become" something, and that is always going to be limiting.

So, beliefs, like the personality itself, are always a limitation on our being and experiencing, and best skilfully encouraged only where they are going to be useful.

(I use "I" here as a convenient shorthand)

ah.... interesting...in my belief system we use that same discussion to get over stuff and move on and grow....denials and affirmations.

change the beliefs we don't like and instill ones we do (beliefs that is about our personal self perception)

Absolutely. Alongside that goes the essential spiritual technique of
"Fake it til you Make it."

It's amazing how many people just don't get the importance of that for the westerner. The western path does not involve annihilating (thank the lord for spell checkers) the personality, but skilling it up.

My beliefs are useful; I drive down the road, I believe that the driver of the oncoming vehicle does not want to die and so will not swerve across the carriage way into me. Had I not this belief, I would be unable to drive

Ah, NLP. A fascinating discussion all on its own. Aerist, it is my perception that you do not have a solid understanding of what beliefs mean in the NLP system. You said you do not find your beliefs helpful.

But NLP does not suggest that one should throw beliefs out the window. Beliefs are neither good nor bad. Rather it is how one uses beliefs that is the key.

It is a simple quiz that inquires as to your beliefs about religious ideas and then indicates which religious groups your ideas coincide with.... that is the nature of this thread... taking the quiz/test and reporting back as to its results.

The quiz has flaws, there were questions that none of the answers particularly fit me correctly, I had to choose the best/closest. Its accuracy is in question...it is for fun and to open your eyes....I mean hell...I agree with fundies a small percentage of time...

Mine only came up with one result, Reformed Judaism, but I've taken this test so many times, I already know what the top results would be and they'd all be in the 85+%.

Reformed Judaism
Unitarian Universalism
Conservative Judaism
Secular Humanism
Quakerism
Orthodox Judaism
