In about three weeks Baha'is on the local level... ("grassroots") will be holding what are called "Unit Conventions" at least in the U.S., Canada.. other countries with Baha'i administration will be holding similar meetings... these Unit Conventions are set up for all the Baha'is in a given area to gather together and select a delegate to the National Convention held in April next year.. We call this the Ridvan season.

The delegates are selected on a secret ballot and there is no electioneering... Prayers are recited and the vote is a plurality.

"The unit convention consists of two principle parts: (1) the election of delegates, who will be responsible for electing the National Spiritual Assembly, and (2) the consultation of the believers present at the convention on matters raised by the National Spiritual Assembly, as well as others of national concern. For this reason, attendance at the unit convention, in addition to voting, is strongly encouraged."
