Sevdalinka song genre: typical of Bosnian Muslims, and later adopted by Christians of former Yugoslavia. The "sevdalinka" comes from Turkish "sevda" which originates from Arabic "sawda." In Turkish "sevda" originally referred to being in love hopelessly, while earlier Arabic uses referred to four humors that controlled human feelings and emotions. Hence, sevdalinka songs often speak of love for another, country, town, faith or some kind of tragedy.
