I had to fight back the tears the other day when I came across my dad's old food stained Bible. It got that way because he used to read it to us during Sunday dinner when I was a kid. He liked the book of Corinthians best and often picked passages to discuss while we ate. I can just hear him now, "Ok boys, what do you suppose old Paul was trying to tell us here?"

That was my indoctrination to the Christian faith. One that's made a lasting impression on my life. What about you? How did you come to be Christian?

What a great memory. Thanks for sharing. I'm partial to the book of Corinthians myself.

As for myself, I've felt the presence of God for as long as I can remember, but it wasn't until I was about 8 or 9 that I attached the Christian label to it. That's when my mom presented me with a pocket testament. I read it cover to cover over the next 2 summers and was completely sold. Everything I've experienced and read since, including non-Christian doctrine, has served to reinforce my faith.

My dad was a right bloke for sure. I hadn't realized how much I missed those Sunday dinners.

Same here. I have a lot of respect for other religions, but Christianity just strikes a chord with me. Going by the lack of response here though, we may be the only 2 Christians on the forum.;)

I grew up in a family that very much put Christianity at the head of teaching, but lacked a lot of formal exercise of it. There was a lot of "The Bible tells us..." but very little reading. I remember in Late Elementary/Early Middle School I started walking up the street to the church and attending 2 Sunday services and Wednesday, usually my sister would as well. I tried very hard to get into the whole Bible study groups, but was usually told I was too young. I was indoctrinated, and had no question about my faith. That is until I started reading the Bible and realizing 90% of the "The Bible says..." moments I'd been taught, were either non-existent or opposite. I do miss getting explanations from my parents and other family about what the Bible says to do in certain scenarios, but now I have to do the explaining to them, which is fairly awkward that I need to explain a Book I don't follow (well at least not as top source) to people who do follow it.

And I'm sure there are a few others who Identify as Christian... wil and Thomas, for sure...

Not much bible reading my childhood home...much more with my children than my parents. I went to Sunday school till about 4th grade... Then started staying home with dad..mom and my sisters went to church.

In highschool I began attending Christian youth groups for the girls. In my 20's searched for a bit for a church that I felt I could belong...no avail.

Wasn't until the 90's finding a program for my children that I found a congregation that seemed to live the teachings I read...that didn't seem hypocritical by the time they got to the parking lot.

One Sunday while in maybe 7th grade.,.I was practicing for a community play group.. A number of us whonhad finished our section...didn't have a role in the act that was currently rehearsing started playing a game if hearts....one of the adults flipped out for us having the gaul for playing on the sabbath... I asked her if it wouldn't be considered worse for working (practicing/rehearsing) on the sabbath....she lost it. And I became suspicious and watchful of overt piety ever since...

Yeah, I know what you mean. Dad never did that. He read directly from the KJV and made sure we understood by making us explain to him what the passage was telling us.

Amazing how many people call themselves Christian, yet fail to realize Jesus is our sabbath, not a day of the week.

I came to know Christianity through 6am Catholic mass and 13 years of CCD. My parents discussed the Bible, but not in the quoting chapter and verse way.
