Just the wife and myself this year, so things will be fairly subdued. 9 days before we stop eating meat of any kind. A few days before, we clean everything and get our Mandir ready for Diwali night, which is 27 October this year. That morning we'll make Indian treats, laddu and so forth, prepare fruit, cut flowers and decorate our Mandir. In the evening we'll place the fruit and flowers on the alter and light numerous candles inside and out, burn incense and say our prayers and wishes for the new year. In my wife's country fireworks are also part of the festivities, but for the sake of our neighbors here, we generally forego that part in favor of some nice decorative lights. How is Diwali celebrated at your place, NJ?
I’m very sorry for your loss. I hope your wife finds strength during this difficult time. Our celebration came to an abrupt halt early this morning when we received word that my wife's cousin in Fiji had suddenly passed away from an acute asthma attack. This hits especially hard as my wife and she were raised together and have remained in close contact. She was just in her early 50's too...![]()
She's doing well Steve, thanks for asking. The 9 day after funeral rituals are going on now and she's been able to talk with her mom via messenger most every night.@Namaste Jesus, how is your wife holding up?
I'm happy to hear she's been doing well and been able to talk with her mom. I hope that the post-funeral rituals prove even more cathartic. She's doing well Steve, thanks for asking.
