My last couple of posts have come up with this message, but not the previous ones. Why is this? It seems arbitrary, and I don't feel I've said anything which actually needs moderation.

New joiners are on "probation", with more filters applied to their posts. Posting links will always trigger the manual approval during this time.

Nothing personal. We all passed through this.

It feels arbitrary, and I haven't posted any links. Oh well.

It is a rite of passage for thinking humans used to weed out the bots...and the marketeers...

Our evil plot to test your patience, tenacity and worthiness to enter our sacred realm of mixed snark and decorum.

Arbitrary and unexplained moderation is certainly a test of patience. Are you actually a mod, or just guessing? :p

I am nobody and everybody. Mods come and go, conjecture , humor and occasionally lucid insight at appropriate and inappropriate times is my niche.

I predict while this seems irritating in the moment it will be forgotten and inconsequential in time.

Now if you'd raise your hands so we can get the spray over there...

So you don't know? Maybe somebody who IS moderating here could explain what is going on?

There is only one moderator. It is a small site. He is in America. There's a time lapse. I cannot speak for him because I don't know what words in your posts have been caught in the filters. He is StevePame.

There is a huge amount of spam and hate speech caught in the filters that only he sees. Some really nasty stuff. He also has a busy day job

Your stuff seems quite alright, so after a short time he should give you green light to post and post links. It is frustrating to you and to us, but it seems to be the only way to keep the real creeps out of here.

Perhaps raise your query in the Feedback forum.

Best wishes.

@Mrs Malaprop, as many on this thread said, we have a bunch of filters set up to send comments to moderation for new members. It is an important line of defense against the spam, hate, and self-promoters. And I am the only moderator, so there is a delay, especially with time zone differences. I assure you I review and release as quickly as I can.

I know it is frustrating to have the filters set so high and I am sorry for that. While I can’t reveal how all of them work to ensure their integrity remains, I can share that if a new member replies to a post that includes a link, the moderation software flags that as if the new member posted a link.

I appreciate your patience and apologize for this, unfortunately, necessary inconvenience.
