Im intrigued by the shared myth/stories of religions and their individual reimagining of them. An example being the great flood. I'm wondering if anyone has any book suggestions that explore this

Thanks for any suggestions!

I posted this in the ancient religion section but it doesn't seem very active.

Not sure if you mean religious studies type treatises of comparative mythology, or modern-day interpretations of the myths?

A science fiction reimagining of the flood story which I like is "The Songs of Distant Earth" by arthur C Clarke.

religious studies for sure im looking at serious attempts to see how religion evolved and in some instances myths/stories were taken and changed to suit by another religion! Not in any way science fiction or ancient alien type stuff.

I thought I responded to this. An interesting fictional novel of the formation of abrahamic religions T3
he Source, by James Michener.

Also check out Bahai as they they have a way of weaving 9 beliefs together

The first flood was by ice. Ice-age. Mentioned in the Avesta, Ahur Mazda warning Yima, the king of men, of its coming when there will be 10 months of winter and two months of summer, and that too will be uncomfortable, there will be no grass for the quadrupeds, and snow will cover the highest peaks of the mountains by so many feet. It is a myth of the Indo-European homeland.

Check out the documentary below about the hero's journey in the world's myths. It draws on the work of Joseph Campbell.
