In their final movie, known variously as Utopia, Atoll K, and Robinson Crusoeland, Laurel & Hardy are shipwrecked with others on an island. The duo deserved a much better vehicle for their cinematic swan song than this Italian-French co-production.
There is a genuinely funny moment in the film when Oliver Hardy decides that, in the interests of order, the group must have a government. He declares himself president and then assigns government positions to all the rest of the shipwrecked - all the rest, that is, except for Stan Laurel. When Stan bemoans, "But what about me, Ollie?" Hardy's response is, "Why, Stanley, you're the most important of all. You're the people!"
I was reminded of that movie when I noticed today for the first time that, with a couple of exceptions, most of the active posters on the forum seem to be designated as either staff or moderators. I had never noticed that before.
Like the title of the thread states, it's just an observation. It is certainly neither a complaint nor a criticism and rest assured I am not looking to be chosen to join those ranks. I have more than enough on my plate right now. Besides, I'm among the most important of all according to Oliver Hardy. I'm the people!
Note: If I had seen Steve's post before I wrote this, I would not have posted.)
