What do you celebrate?

This is the place to share, be it a holyday, a new birth, a graduation, a milestone, a job change, a marriage, a divorce...whatever.

My niece just announced I am to be a great uncle again...it makes me smile

Congrats! I've got 13 grand nephews and nieces on the wife's side and I'm sure many more on my side, but I only know of 2 as it's been quite a number of years since I heard from any of them.

The wife and I never had any kids of our own, but we sort of took the wife's widowed sis's 5 in under our wing. One of whom lives near by and the rest are in Fiji and New Zealand.

Well, then there's Aussie's daughter-in-law. A truly fascinating young aboriginal woman that seems to have adopted me as her long lost uncle. She never fails to make me smile.

I celebrate all of them.

Sunday night is the 1st night of Hanukkah.

My son, his wife, my 3 1/2 month granddaughter, and my daughter joined us for Thanksgiving weekend.

I celebrate pretty much every life cycle event with the :kitty:s because I couldn't have human kids of my own. They had turkey and duck/turkey and halibut :kitty: food as a treat on Thanksgiving, plus they're getting more tinned food during Hanukkah.

I also got them :kitty: toys for Hanukkah along with some extra boxes (yeah, I spoil them rotten.)

Then there are my rl friends who are young enough to be my kids, but we don't live in the same state any more. What makes matters more difficult is that none of us can drive nor can afford plane/airline tickets. I'm tempted to give them something this year, especially Angie (she lost her dad this past year [complications of Alzheimer's].)

Early this year eh? Is the date based on a lunar calendar?
Yup, or a modified lunar year (Muslims use a lunar calendar, too, but they don't have "leap years".)

It's not the earliest (that happened a couple of years ago [I think] when Hanukkah landed on Thanksgiving!) Oh, and I need to pick up an electric menorah (no lit candles allowed in my apartment complex due to a few of my neighbours using oxygen.)
