Is not all gender expression a fashion trend?

Boys don't play with dolls....says the parent.

Girls don't talk like that ...says grandma.

You can't wear that to school...says teacher.

All of those statements come from societal norms (fashion trends)

I think we get too wrapped up in the trend that is going on in OUR mind and then demand it in others under the guise of the fashion trend, manners, our expectations, the law, common sense, morality, or some religious scripture....we will grasp at whatever branch we can find to turn it into a switch and enforce our views on others.

I was not allowed a GI Joe... it's a doll

But I was also no allowed any toy guns...or even pointing my finger and saying "pow" "bang"

I worked in the garage, hauled out garbage, worked on construction or garden stuff (outside) my sisters worked inside laundry, dusting, vacuuming.

We have come a long way baby.

Fashion trend...men don't wear dresses. No that isn't a skirt it's a kilt...it is our heritage. Give me a break...it is a skirt....and it is comfortable eh? All men can wear skirts and women when where pants...omg a fashion trend...

Everybody can wear wtf they want!

We constantly go around on the same issues slowly advancing to the next.

Kids these days... the isn't music, it is noise.

• How long before it becomes part of the culture? What sorts of social enforcements are involved at this stage?
• How long before it becomes a custom? What sorts of social enforcements are involved at this stage? (Is this where honorific/pronoun language enforcements occur?)
  
• At what point does a counter-cultural trend become mainstream?
