They're hoping to find a way to use the ice as water for future moon stations. It's the first step towards this project. It's cool to see.

That is a general quest for knowledge and expertise in operating space crafts. Moon Stations are not the objective. Space stations, spying equipment and war operations from space, defense and offense, may be required in the times to come. Let us be practical. At the least, we require deterrence.
 
Today (11.50 India time), India has sent its first solar probe, which will station itself at Lagrange point 1, at a distance of 1.5 million kms from Earth. The probe, Aditya L1, carries seven instruments. The journey will last 125 days. There is no occultation of the Sun at that point.
