Coming end of November 2023 - EMPIRE OF GOD: HOW THE BYZANTINES SAVED CIVILIZATION
by Robert Spencer

"Without the Byzantine Empire, there never would have been Western civilization.
Western civilization is generally regarded as the child of Athens, Jerusalem, and Rome. That is, in the West, our philosophical and political thought is derived from that of the ancient Greeks; our Christian religion comes from the Jewish religion, and both of these came to us via the Roman Empire and the civilization and culture it created."

"Leave it to Robert Spencer to write a history of the Byzantine Empire that has no ideological axe to grind. Few contemporary writers care about truth—wherever it leads—as much as he does. That’s why Empire of God is as important as it is eye-opening. If you know how important history is, or you just care about understanding the roots of Western civilization—the greatest civilization ever created—you should read this book." Dennis Prager,

Analayo on Nirvana.

"Nirvana is a critical part of the Buddhist path, though it remains a difficult concept to fully understand for Buddhist practitioners. In The Signless and the Deathless: On the Realization of Nirvana, scholar-monk Bhikkhu Analayo breaks new ground, or rediscovers old ground, by showing the reader that realizing Nirvana entails 'a complete stepping out of the way the mind usually constructs experience.' Latest from RF Kennedy on bioweapons arms race.

"Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s meticulously researched and rigorously sourced analysis leads readers on a staggering journey to learn about:

  • the key enablers and henchmen pushing for gain-of-function research
  • the economic motives behind gain-of-function research
  • successfully engineered “chimeric viruses” that can infect and kill humans
  • the coordinated effort to silence speculation of COVID-19’s laboratory genesis
  • the complicity of scientific journals to hide the origins of COVID-19
  • the role of the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China’s biowarfare/biodefense program
  • the relationships between US health, military, and intelligence bureaucracies and scientists and their Chinese counterparts."

Your titling buries these reviews....if you put the title of the book as the title of the thread...and then your link AND your thoughts on the book and the review you might get a response from someone on that book.

Hence the reason we provided a book forum.

Dang if we only had a thumb down emoji I could have just clicked it and conveyed no information. ☺️

This spiritual classic about redemption from Communism by Whittaker Chambers is titled Witness and is a true story of his embrace of the Party and work for the Communists. How Christ saved him from that atheistic drudgery is heartening!

Our Enemy, the Government by Ramesh Thakur
One of Brownstone's most recent books:

Treason of the Experts by Thomas Harrington is another excellent book.

As is becoming clear to dear readers, this thread could be better titled "book notes" or book mentions. My poor health & feeble energy level means I write little about the books. Especially those which I have not read - the majority usually.

Just encouraging book reading, not review writing.

Descent of the Gods by AE (George Russell)

"Although A.E., was a poet, painter newspaper editor and political writer, working for three decades in the Irish cooperative movement, he is probably most well known today as a mystic. His writings on the subject resulting from his Hindu and Theosophical studies and his own visionary abilities, are of major importance to all who are interested in the unseen world."

“A wonderfully intelligent, witty, and riveting account of the politically correct madness engulfing our society. The Parasitic Mind is a must-read for anyone concerned about victim politics, cancel culture, and the assault on reason. Saad not only expertly diagnoses the malady, he also points the way to a cure.”

"Nationalism is the issue of our age. In The Virtue of Nationalism, Israeli philosopher Yoram Hazony makes the positive case for nationalism in an honest, reasoned, morally unflinching way. This book offers an eye-opening rethinking of the modern political experience.

Hazony argues that in view of this renewed clash between nationalism and universalism, we will have to make a choice: Either a world of independent states, or a renewal of the ideal of universal empire—which means, inevitably, American empire.
The Virtue of Nationalism compares the options before us, and suggests that if it’s freedom we want, we should fight to preserve a world of independent nations."

"In The Two-Parent Privilege, Melissa S. Kearney makes a provocative, data-driven case for marriage by showing how the institution’s decline has led to a host of economic woes—problems that have fractured American society and rendered vulnerable populations even more vulnerable. Eschewing the religious and values-based arguments that have long dominated this conversation, Kearney shows how the greatest impacts of marriage are, in fact, economic: when two adults marry, their economic and household lives improve, offering a host of benefits not only for the married adults but for their children."

[The Radical Mind is] “A brilliant take down of the Democrat party—the party of slavery; the confederacy; Jim Crow; Dred Scott; the Southern Manifesto; that, as a percentage of the House and Senate, voted less for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 than did Republicans; that, due to the “war on poverty,” launched in the mid 1960s, has devastated the nuclear family and created an epidemic of fatherlessness; and the party that opposes school choice.”

RADICAL utopians seeking to change the world invariably have three
traits in common. These flow from the radical nature of their mission,
which is to change the world.
First, radicals are in a hurry.
Their task is large and the opportunities to achieve it scarce. America’s political
culture is specifically designed to support incremental reforms, not abrupt
breaks with the past. Ramming through transformational changes on the
basis of razor thin majorities is exactly what the American system is
designed to frustrate and thwart. But this is the very goal of radicals, and
they are consequently pitted from the outset against the majority.
Second, because radicals are in a hurry, they are impatient with process
and persuasion, which makes them generally tone deaf to the majority that
opposes them. Radicals dismiss their opponents, because once their
schemes are implemented—by whatever means necessary—they are
confident that a majority will see just how liberating their policies are, and
they will be grateful. Blinded by arrogance, they prefer government by
mandate and diktat to the frustrating conversations that are the life blood of
a democratic system.
Third, radicals generate energy for their movements by singling out a
social subgroup, usually a racial or religious minority, to demonize as the
enemy of these liberating schemes. In this way they remove opponents from
the deliberative process and deny them a proverbial “seat at the table”
where they can express their opposition.

From Final Battle by David Horowitz

"Ultimately, this isn’t a story about one scandal, or even an exposé on the famous cast of malicious characters in Washington, DC (though trust me, I have a lot to say about them). This is a story about how the American people—myself included—slowly came to realize the truth about those who run our country; how the problems we face are not just the result of our leaders’ incompetence but more so their malice; how the media is not just one-sided but liars; and most of all how what became known as the Deep State isn’t some crazy conspiracy but a real force—and the most dangerous threat to our democracy.
The Trump era was, more than anything else, an apocalypse in the truest sense of the word. It was an unveiling. It was a time when suddenly we came to see that unaccountable elites in Washington armed with the powers of the state believe that anything is justified—absolutely anything—to preserve their power. This book is about how we discovered that truth and what we should do now that we know what we’re up against."

Mere Natural Law by Hadley Arkes

In this profoundly important reassessment of constitutional interpretation, the eminent legal philosopher Hadley Arkes argues that "originalism" alone is an inadequate answer to judicial activism.
Untethered from “mere Natural Law”—the moral principles knowable by all—our legal and constitutional system is doomed to incoherence.
The framers of the Constitution regarded the “self-evident” truths of the Natural Law as foundational. And yet in our own time, both liberals and conservatives insist that we must interpret the Constitution while ignoring its foundation.

Tulsi Gabbard's first book - For Love of Country, Leave the Democrat Party Behind

Tulsi Gabbard was the rising star of the Democrat Party. But the growing wokeness, fomenting racism, and intolerance were more than she could stomach, and she left. This is her story and a call to action to Americans who love our country and cherish peace and freedom.
Today’s Democrat Party is controlled by an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by woke ideology and racializing everything. They are a clear and present threat to the God-given freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.

Tulsi Gabbard is one of the bravest people in the United States—and if you doubt that, consider what she’s lost for telling the truth about the most powerful people in the world.
