It's fair to say that the relationship between science and Christianity has been long and mixed.
The anti-science fundies have indeed skewed things so that a very incorrect but simplistic heuristic has developed into an either/or: You're either a fundamentalist christian with no nuance or an atheist materialist with no nuance. No other existence is conceivable.
Boring, wrong, and even dangerous. It sucks the air out of the room and leaves no space for ANYBODY else.
I think it leads way too many decent people to give up not only on Christianity but religion all together - if they get the false impression that reason and science are disallowed within the confines of any religious leaning.
If well educated moderate Christians were more vocal, would it make a difference?
Or do they just get demonized like Progressive and Liberal Christians do?

I think social media demonstrates that, I think 'well educated moderate Christians' speaking out would just invite a storm of invective ...
