The Notebook
By Bobby Neal Winters
Memories are our bridge to the past, and among companions, a connection to each other. This is why dementia—whether caused by Alzheimer’s or something else—can be so devastating. People who’ve known each other for years can see their relationship dissolve as the memories that bind them disappear one at a time. However, this is not quite right, because the memories only disappear from one side, so one person is in the position of seeing the other slowly disappear.
