I'm not making this up. I've noticed a few of these "Combat4Christ.com" signs along the higway, not far from where we live. I finally went to the website. I still . . . well, I'm still don't know how to react to this.

I have to say something: If this was a camp being attended by Muslim children, what sort of reaction would it get from the locals? The govenrment . . . ?

Lensman,

I don't really see anything wrong with it. I think it looks like any after school program or summer bible camp - only it is military and bible based. It's giving the kids something to do...

Looks pretty cool.:p

The website says its only a weekend program - 2 days ain't exactly enough time to brainwash someone, so it looks pretty harmless. If it were a 6 month program, or longer, then I'd start to worry.

Oh my. Teaching a child how to fire a rifle for hunting is one thing. Teaching a child how to fire a semi-automatic pistol is something totally different. Holding that child so he does not fall down while firing that pistol...

Combat for Christ? Whoa.

Yeah, I see something wrong.

But then, what do I know about military mindsets...

Q

Well, how do you think some would react if this was a Muslim camp? Could you imagine--here in the Bible Belt--the possible uproar?

Bits of it are funny and bits of it are just plain scary!

Yes I would be worried if this was a camp for muslim children, and I am equally worried that it is a camp for Christian children. In these days of religious fundamentalism this is a terrible idea for any religious group.

One final thought

This could be George Bush's version of the Hitler Youth.

Okay, Quahom. Coming from you; I guess there is something I missed? Maybe this dude believes that the kids should be able to defend themselves against, uh, Muslims?

And the truth is, I would be out picketing if this were for Muslim children. Only because of the reputation of fanatical Muslim groups at this time. Perhaps the government is checking them out to make sure they aren't reading from hitman manuals? Uh.... Um.

I hope that you're not making a remark directing at all Muslims. I know many and they're peaceful.

And . . . I don't live far from these C4C people.

i think it is cool. the bible does teach spiritual warfare & I think that is most likely what the kids will reflect on later in life from this, especially as they learn that not everyone out here is very nice or can be trusted.
I doubt the baptists are teaching them to shoot at & fight with people, but it could still be just as effective without the guns. I am thinking there may be a police officer in there church helping with this, we have 2 police men in our church too.

My Grandpa taught me how to use his pistols & rifles, & safety when I was seven (7) (we went out back at targets), but what I remember about that is they are dangerous & I should NEVER touch the gun rack.

I dont know if Islam has teaching on spiritual warfare, but the Bible does teach it & we also wear the Full Armor of God, starting with FAITH Training to fight the GOOD FIGHT...that is what these kids will be learning, not killing people.

this is what it means:)
Commitment
Obedience
Mind
Body
Attitude

Testimony

did you read the course descriptions?
excerpt from site: Weapons Course: This course challenges the Christian Soldier to engage and eliminate his greatest enemies

Thats disturbing since we do not war against flesh and blood, and thats exactly what weapons destroy.

fs,

I looked over the whole thing and that's exactly what stuck out to me. But the rest of the site seems cool. But weapons? Weapons + God = seeds for Holy War/Crusade/Jihad.

I was struck immediately with all the pictures of kids holding weapons. Im by no means a liberal that believes in gun control but these are babies learning to use guns to eliminate enemies of Christians??!! My father was a police officer and I was brought up with guns and knowing how to shoot but the intention was never for me to use it on a person.. my Dad taught me to use a gun so that I knew how to use it safely.

It did appear extremist to me, also.

no disrespect to your dad, but safely using a gun is something of an oxymoron.
There are other ways to get meat than from a grocery store...Most people do not own guns to shoot people despite opinions from anti-gun people.

You give two people a gun.. one person knows gun safety the other one doesnt.. which do you trust more to handle it.

Its the same with driving a car.. one person was taught how to drive the other one wasnt... which do you trust more to drive it.

I know many Muslims and they are peaceful as well, I'm talking about fanatical Muslim groups. That goes with saying that there is a possibility of this developing fanatical Christian groups.
The line is fine, though. It is not uncommon for a child to learn how to shoot and all these things out in the Midwestern and Southern states. To give Bible instruction isn't so bad either. But it's like me reading a book about how one became a hitman and then I go out and commit a murder. Not that the author intended for me to go kill someone but by giving me the instruction the seed is planted.

some of my friends & everyone in my family owns a gun & so do I. i do not shoot people.

Namaste all,

what next.... Buddhists for Bombs?!?!

meaning, of course:

B = Basic
O = orientation of
M = minds
B = before
S = sense consciousness

sort of reminds me a little joke that i heard... Quahom, perhaps you've heard it as well...

what is the difference between a Mechanical Engineer and a Civil Engineer?

a mechanical engineer makes weapon systems
a civil engineer builds targets.

I checked out the COMBAT website as well. Interesting to say the least. I think in some ways a spiritual "boot camp" can be a good thing but teaching children to use firearms in an enivronment purported to honour God is a little iffy for my liking. They use Ephesians as a basis (6:10-) but I think they push Paul's analogy of arming oneself against the enemy a bit too far. He was using the example of a Roman soldier's armour and weapons as something of a metaphor for how we should prepare ourselves for the work of God.

I hear the US C.O.M.B.A.T 4 Christ group has a sister organisation in the UK, called C.U.P of T.E.A 4 Christ. ;)
