Allah said in the Quraan,which can be translated as :

" Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects Evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.[2 :256]


There is no compultion is islam then, If you do not accept Islam then you have to pay the tax ie. Jeziah(tax), or fight and you will have to continue fighting until you are tired and give in... is it not like forcing someone..

9:29,Fight those who blieve not in Allah nor the Last Day,nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbiden by Allah and his Messenger,nor acknowledge the rligion of Truth,(even if they are )of the People of the Book,until they pay the Jiziah with willing submission,and feel themselves subdued.

And, why would they have to choose to pay tax or fight?
can someone expalin it to me..

Thanks Muslima for your asking ... actually if you think logically you can find the answer , At the beginning of the Islamic state the Muslims start to built an organized societies in it they want to pay for the poor people (muslims and non muslims ) as the social welfare systems today , and to protect the people whom lived in the new Islamic state ( muslims and non muslims ) , and to present new services to the people , so they must put a financial system for all citizens because all of them well benefit from those services , If they are Muslim we call it Zakah and if they are non Muslim we call it Jeziah
the final aim was to built strong society and to organize it .
if big number of non muslims choose not to pay they try to corrupt the new building of Islamic state so they must choose between these two conditions .
 
So does that mean jeziah is only payed by non muslims in islamic countries.do arab christians pay even today and is there a fixed amount to be payed like zakat its 25% ..and what sort of benefits they attain..is it not like forcing someone to do or die kinda thing.

Hi muslima

No, Arab christians and Arab Muslims are live under the same conditions today
we all pay the same tax as citizens .. that condition which you mention above was to fulfill certain issue which is starting to build the Islamic state Which faced many threats at that time .
