Hey guess what? I just got on idea. We could explore the issue from a completely different perspective. I'm planning on creating another thread on the NY mosque.

What did you have in mind Salty? I myself was wondering about the millions of Muslims here in the US that are living in fear and wondering if America can ever be a home to them. I also wonder about taking the high ground with this whole issue. Wouldn't it show the world that America is the wonderful country we all thought in that we can build a cultural center near ground zero to show the terrorist mindset that we are simply not impressed with their fear tactics, that we cannot be swayed like so many frightened children.

Unfortunately I don't think the human race has advanced far enough to allow for this. The political climate in the US is almost cartoon like.

Like any first gen immigrants, the Arab Muslims (and that is the focus of the ire of most Americans), have a tough row to hoe. They come with preconceived notions and expectations, and for the most part, will never change. It is the second and third generations that begin to adapt, blend, contribute to the US national identity.

This is nothing new. But the media is having a field day with exploiting the stresses (as usual).

See I knew it! Quick to reach for the explosives!

I could stone you or cut your head off if you'd prefer ... never let it be said I'm not tolerant enough to offer choices :p

Great to hear someone is thinking about the other side of the coin and I'm afraid it's not just in the US.

It's such a shame that a few radical extremists can bring such fundamental change to the lives of ordinary Muslims around the world. I just hope that in time 9/11 and it's after affects will have a positive impact both for Muslim attitudes toward non-Muslims and vice versa.
