Sufi question for Abdullah (or anyone else)

I have read Abdullah's post somewhere where he stated that there are Sufi's who were in fact blasphemous but there are some who are not. What is the "litmus" test in his view?

Two of the most famous examples of these blasphemies are Mansur Hallaj's Ana ul Haq (I am the truth), and Bayezid Bastami's Subhani Ma Azam Shani (I am exalted, great is my glory).

From the sufis point of view, they say its a meditative experience, where for some time they become annihilated in God's presence/being so much that they perceive themselves as a part of God, and utter these words in that state. When they come out of this state, they again start perceiving themselves as human.

From the state's POV, they have comitted blasphemy, and need to be tried and punished for it.

The best book that I have read regarding this topic is Words of Ecstasy in Sufism By Carl W. Ernst.

Hi hermes!

there are non-Muslims that have hijacked the Islamic word 'sufi'; I think it is for purposes of confusing newcomers to Islam to their idolatrous stuff

basically the 'blasphemers' [although the more correct term for it will be polytheists] are those who claim God is everything, so man is god too and when man dies he becomes a part of God etc.

this sort of stuff is right out of the books of bush and co and nuffin to do wiv muslims! ;)

ps: I've had a word with Abdullah and he agrees! ;)

salaam brother

those utterances are infact ok

I read about them in a deobandi sufi book and great sunni Sufi's have said it

basically what happens is when they go into a deep trance, they feel such a closeness to Allah ... and sometimes they hear Allah speaking to them; they here the words 'I am Allah' and they out of a loving adherance to these words repeat them so while people here them say 'I am Allah' what they don't know is that they are just repeating out of fondness what they heard Allah say!
