I know writing a 15-20 minute talk/sermon every week is not easy...

But as long as it is simply pontificating...a info drilling reinforcing paradigms script... It ain't the same as having to cite all sources, back up thoughts and preparing for answers for questions from the congregation.

My dad refused going to church and read.the bible in his own....just because preachers wouldn't do that. They said "if you have questions see me in my office" he said "if I have questions maybe others do, and I want to hear their questions and your responses to that as well"

I've only found two churches who do this....one the Q&A is 20 min after a 15 min talk... The other is a monthly Q&A directly after service... Almost half the congregation attends and it lasts for upto 2 hours...no songs, no ceremony, just 2 hours of interesting dialogue.

Have you found this anywhere? Would you like it included in your service?
 
From my very limited perspective it seems like the traditional church experience is about faith and community, where as you are seeking answers to questions. How far of am I?
 
I suppose... I just want back up for info. You know, footnotes, citations, links. But there sure isn't any diminished faith or community with a little substantiation...

The parish priest at my mum's church used to hand out reference notes after his homilies. My mum used to pass them to me. 'You two would get on well,' she observed dryly. 'How's he doing?' I asked.

'Not popular.' It might be your bag, Wil, it is mine, but it's not what most people want...
 
Questions ... questions ... questions ...

I'm reminded of the Zen master who said "Less talk, let's sit!" ...

I'd say Prayer – Faith – Community, which corresponds to the Buddhist Three Jewels.

I know where I choose to stand.

I guess that is one way to attempt.to get people to stop asking questions....

But this member of the unwashed masses has been called worse.
 
But I think in some ways you are, your position on certain issues are very clear and you show little respect for people who dont share your views. Its not criticism, as such, you and I stand on the same side on most topics. But you and I are only human, and quite flawed!

I don't know what my options are! But I was speaking from the assumption that people expect too much from themselves and each other. Even if you seem elitist in some ways I don't think less of you for it, it gives you character!

And I understand that you don't agree with me but I hope you don't take it to hard, Im just some guy on the internet, we have little control over other peoples opinions.

LOL, you can't have it both ways, chum. You were deriding them a minute ago. They are definitely not your kind of folk.
 
I can't have it both ways? Well I can for decades, this chameleon goes from the board room, to the backroom, to living in the woods quite well, from the pews, to the pulpit, from the couch, to chair...muahaha
 
So I am the only one here who likes open conversation and discussion with the preacher?

Everyone else.likes to sit and be told what to think? (Is that holier than thou? Or is the preacher?)
