Was he seeing that as poetic, or prophetic?
In a way I think the last minutes of the film kind of addressed this, although I don't want to spoil it here. One great issue of the film is how culpable Oppenheimer was. I know he felt guilt later, but he must have known that he was creating a weapon that would cause immense human suffering to a degree never possible before. And yet he did so anyways. He was extremely morally questionable.
