    We never talk about Zeus

I didn't know that! That's really cool, and made my morning. Are there any traditions surrounding his worship today? The worship of Zeus in Greece is making a comeback, I'm happy to see. A temple has been build there in recent years for the original deities. There has been some pushback...

    We never talk about Zeus

That's cool you got to experience that! While Storm Lord is one of his major functions, it's worth noting he had dozens of others. As Zeus Herkeios, he guarded the boundaries of properties. As Zeus Ktesios, he oversaw the stores of food one kept(and therefore their well being). As Zeus...

    We never talk about Zeus

While I'm not interested in comparing Zeus with the God of Abraham, I discovered the epithets(different title) sometime this year and was fascinated by them(not just for Zeus, but many of the Old Greek deities). This has helped me understand the depths of these divinities, and relate to them...

    Religion of love?

I try to treat my neighbors the way I think they want to be treated(because I'm not all knowing, and can only make guesses based on what I know of them), in ways that don't go beyond my comfort level.

    What are you currently reading?

Onto Weather Shaman! I had started it a month ago, then lost track of it, and moved onto something else. I found it while cleaning, put it back on the shelf, and now I'll restart. (I do that a lot.)

    What are you currently reading?

Just finishing up Jewish Life in the Middle Ages by Israel Abrams. It was printed in 1920... some of the pages hadn't even been separated since being printed. It fascinates me that I may be the first person to read this particular copy.

Honor thy Father and thy Mother

My mom was okay. She did well in some areas, not well at others. She was human. My dad didn't do great. There were hard feelings for awhile, but he took steps to amend his ways, and he's come around. I'm proud of him. However, I don't have any opinion on whether or not folks should honor...

What is it like where you live?

I live in a city of about 67,000 in Iowa(Midwest). Its an old industrial city, not terribly wealthy, fairly high crime rate, and definitely trashy. But, it has character, and produces characters. Racial make up is 65.8% white, 17.8% black, 7.1% Latino, 4.5% Mixed race 2.9% Asian, 1% Pacific...

Have you taught your children about other faiths?

We try to include the kids in on whatever we're doing, and let them ask questions as they're interested. My oldest is 18 now, and isn't terribly interested in religion. He says his beliefs are probably Pagan, and he's strongly polytheistic, but he isn't interested in practice. The first time...

What have your beliefs cost you?

Interesting thread idea. My beliefs regarding food has cost me a lot of dinners! I suppose when I was a kid, it got me grounded for awhile(parents caved after awhile). Its sometimes caused annoyance towards me from others. Sometimes my marriage has been affected by my beliefs or resulting...

    Fire

Fire is a friend. I tend to give it the respect of a living entity. It lives in my stove, my furnace... Keeps me well fed and warm. I honor fire in entities that embody it. The Mahabharata has stories of Agni. He's said to live within us in the form of digestive 'fire', and there are...
