"Is God Good?" is not a Valid Question

Good point Dogbrain. To try and describe God is to limit him. We should just say that he is the creator and leave it at that. Too many arguments have come from tying to describe God and disagreeing.

"Is God Good?" is not a Valid Question

I would say that, if God exists, he is neither good or bad, his nature is to create, nothing more or less. When we have natural disasters, like tsunamis or earthquakes, we can often ask ourselves where was God? Why did he not save the people who died? Did he punish them for their evil ways? etc...

    Heaven, Hell and Reincarnation.

I like the sound of the Bahá'í faith, it has some god principles. Does the fact that it is seen as one religion and one mankind mean that you subscribe to the teachings of all monotheistic religions, as long as they are in line with those of the Bahá'í faith?

Do we (Muslims, Christians and Jews) believe in the same God or not?

I follow more Buddhist and Taoist teachings but I agree that most religious teachings agree, for the most part, with each other. So much so that some Islamic scholars refer to the Buddha as a prophet, because some of his teachings are so similar to those of the Qur'an. So in a way it doesn't...

Why can't we all remember our past lives?

CZ, your not being cynical are you?

Why can't we all remember our past lives?

S, I mean the present life, both collectively and individually. Our understanding of others comes from understanding ourselves and vice versa.

Why can't we all remember our past lives?

This makes sense but it doesn't explain past life experiences that some people have had, including the Buddha, who supposedly saw all of his past lives when he found enlightenment.

    Karma or God?

I guess you could say that he/she has seen the error of their ways because of good karma they have accumulated from a good action in the past has given them some clarity, but they will suffer for killing in the future. Karma is always mixed.

    Karma or God?

I'm well aware that there are a multitude of options but I picked these two because they make the most sense to me, yet they seem contradictory. This I guess is why I'm thinking I should pick between them. I'm looking for a world view that makes sense, perhaps I'm trying to simplify things too much.

    Buddhist Mindfulness vs Taoist Flow

In Buddhism there is an emphasis on the lack of self, as our focus on the self causes us to suffer, to act in a way to make others suffer, and prevents us from seeing the world as it actually is, empty. If we get the self out of the way then we can live in the moment and can flow along with it...

Why can't we all remember our past lives?

This would help us understand our present life better, and we would be better people as a result.

    Karma or God?

Which is right and more just, that God gave us free will and this is why suffering happens or our karma is playing out from a previous life? When thinking about the many children that suffer in the world I find it hard to accept either, yet no other choice can explain it all, it seems to me. So...

    Is Karma Unjust?

A Muslim friend of mine explained his objects to Karma. His basic point was that because karma states that everything that happens to you is because of your own actions in past lives many people can accept being oppressed or persecuted because they see it as their karma. In a social structure it...

how do you know what to believe?

I agree, and think that sometimes doctrine can get in the way of faith. Religion is not religion when it divides people, and many doctrines do just that. We are one people, and one earth. What we do effects all living beings and the earth too. All is connected. We live in a state of total...

how do you know what to believe?

I've been told by my Muslim friends that the Torah and the Bible are both corrupted versions of Gods message, and that the Qur'an is the only uncorrupt version, which was given to us to clarify things once and for all. In the Qur'an it also mentions that Jesus, Moses, all the way back to Abraham...

    Does evil exist?

I would argue that the transitory state of things is neither good or evil, it is just the way things are. Good and evil are perceptions that we place on things so that they make sense to us. Nothing is either one things or another all the time, or else it would not be transitory. Everything is...

    Does evil exist?

What I meant was that TV programs come and go, but deciding how one should live their life, and even what religion one should follow seems more important, to me. I guess it depends on your point of view. The decision is a personal one.

    Does evil exist?

Your not wrong. I've been reading a lot about Buddhism at the moment and I'm still trying to get my head around the concept that everything is a projection of a projection of a projection. I also work with kids who have Autism and there perceptions seems so crazy sometimes, but the information...
