    The Two Truths

It's my nature to joke ... so I hope I don't offend. As Chevy Chase said, "Be the ball!" ;)

    What's your pirate name?

:D Mad Jenny Kidd Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!

    animal affinities

My crazy theory is that our kindness to spiders and other creatures in our yard is why my garden is always thriving, whereas in other yards, the flowers and bushes are constantly being eaten or destroyed by local "pests". But who knows. It could just be luck too ... ;)

    Retreat experiences

I was unaware that Maryland had barrier islands, although it makes sense that they do. I hope it's a productive retreat! If you are ever looking for a group location in the Northeast, I highly recommend East Mountain Retreat Center. Although it might be a bit of a drive from where you are ...

    animal affinities

It would have to be the spider for me. We have dozens of them in our house and yard ... spinners and nonspinners. I find them fascinating and quite reliable companions.

    Poetry, anyone?

I am enjoying everyone's selections. Insight, indeed! A few originals, although I don't think they match the caliber of the others posted here. But if it's insight you want ... :) ==================== Giggly boy, You make my heart glad. I know someday you won't Think I'm amazing Or...

    Retreat experiences

This is very kind of you! Thank you ... I would be very interested. I've been to only one so far, and it was a self-directed silent retreat. A retired Pastor has grounds in western Massachusetts designed for such purposes. She provided food for myself and another person on solitary retreat. We...

What book are you reading at the moment?

I read the vampire chronicles 10 years ago, in a trailer by the beach, in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. My hubby and I swapped books back and forth all weekend until we ran out of books. Then we headed back to the States. (And broke down on a Native American reservation ... but that is another story...

    Retreat experiences

Hello everyone. I am a shy person by nature, so before I go into a new experience, such as a retreat somewhere that I have never been before, I like to read as much as I can about the place, teachers, etc. But I'm noticing that not many people have accounts of their retreats. Perhaps...

What book are you reading at the moment?

Well, I've just gotten back from my three-day jaunt to Texas. Yee-haw! :) I managed to read "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown and start "Lost in a Good Book" by Jasper Fforde. I found the former very dull, predictable, and implausible. Yet his other book, Da Vinci Code, has been highly...

    Neurotheology

I thought this might interest some people here. http://www.cognitiveliberty.org/neuro/neurotheology.htm Fascinating! So ... what does it mean in terms of your faith? I've heard Buddhism called "mind training" ... indeed! With metta, ZW

What book are you reading at the moment?

Brian, thanks so much for the giggle this morning! I really enjoy that scene. I'm still reading "Landscapes of Wonder" by Bhikkhu Nyanasobhano. It's a short book, but I'm finding it's better to only read one essay per day. Someone lent me "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides, but I just can't...

    Meditation problems

Thanks for editing this Vaj. Much appreciated. Regarding the Taoist philosophies, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to provide much conversation since I know virtually nothing about it. However, I would like to learn more. The Sangha issue is one that I still haven't found a solution too. There are...

    Meditation problems

I think I do know what you mean Brian, however, for me it always feel like the front of my head has popped open. Very strange. Oh, and you do have a time limit on editing. Oh well. Let's all just pretend I'm just Zenda, OK? Susma: An interesting comment. Thanks for making me think in a new way...

    Meditation problems

Thank you both for your insight. Brian, I don't think this is what I'm experiencing. At least, I haven't explored it as such. It feels more like resting in an inner tube on a river, just sort of floating along in a stream of experience. (Sorry. Can't think of a better analogy ... ) And no...

    Meditation problems

Hi all. I'm wondering if the Buddhists on the forum could offer some insight or advice. I've been practicing Vipassana meditation for about 3 years, although more "seriously" (i.e., consistently) for about a year. A few months ago, I kept running into the problem of intense episodes of fear. I...
