It doesn't matter because some people have no qualms about lying. Even worse some people have no qualms about establishing elaborate ruses.
I think the best guiding principle here is that if it doesn't jive with everything else you know about the Universe it probably isn't true or genuine.
I did check and the Catholic church has moved to a position of theistic evolution which means that they accept the scientific view of how life came to be. The scientific view being evolution.
But what do you say to this?
I think that besides the virgin birth being impossible it leaves the Christian myth wide open to being spun into promoting cuckoldry.
For me one of the best aspects of religions is that they get people to behave more morally than they would otherwise. However Christianity with its myth of a...
So I take it that there is no denomination of Christianity that doesn't believe that Christ was born of a virgin?
I'm surprised. You would think that with all the reform movements in Christianity at least one would have been rational enough to shed that bit of superstition.
It's unfortunate...
I think that the continued existence of religion comes down to whether or not, with all our modern scientific knowledge that tends to contradict religion, a society that believes in religion functions better or even out competes a society that doesn't believe in religion.
China is generally...
I don't agree with your characterization that all "religion starters" were "crazy".
If this topic of conversation is effecting you that negatively perhaps you shouldn't partake in it. You shouldn't feel compelled to discuss something that upsets you to that degree. There are plenty of other...
I think that I do ration truth with people quite frequently as part of my daily life. I even do this with people that I love like my parents and my children. There are certain realities that it just won't benefit them to learn about. In fact quite the opposite awareness of some realities can...
Any thoughts on the rationing of truths through the use of metaphor in religion or on the appropriate amount of inculcation as mentioned just recently in this thread?
Unfortunately this forum doesn't allow you to correct your typos and such more than minutes after you wrote it :(
Balancing the interests of clarity and non-redundancy I am posting a corrected version of my last two paragraphs below;
Writing a religion seems to me to be very much a game of...
I thought folks here might be interested to know that there is a new book out that deals with the scientific study of religion and neurotheology in particular. It is:
FINGERPRINTS OF GOD
The Search for The Science of Spirituality
By Barbara Bradley Hagerty
While I have yet to get my...
In my humble opinion this is quite a bit of an over statement. I hardly think that the quantum nature of the Universe is "plainly and clearly observable". In fact in this regard I would say that are minds are structured such as to make this aspect of the nature of the Universe hard to fathom...
For the record, and I have said this many times before, my intention is to remain completely anonymous with regards to the creation of this religion thereby preemptively mooting accusations that fame and wealth were motivating factors. Also by anonymously authoring Nirmaladtha on the Internet...
I'm not certain that one could say that Nirmaladtha is even yet fully established. The religion's book The Transparent Confluence is still a work in progress.
To create a way of life that effectively deals with the human condition and modern global problems such as overpopulation and...
You make a lot of sense.
You know when I made the website for the religion of Transparency (i.e. Nirmaladtha) I never thought that in this day and age it would be consider it a cult. To me it's just another religion.
Well that too could be interpreted as being rather sinister.
I am reminded of the story of Romulus and Remus where the moral of the story is that loyalty to the state comes above loyalty to family. The story of Cain and Able could be said to be similar only with a good helping of guilt thrown...
I don't get the same meaning out of them at all.
The quote from Mathew sounds rather sinister to me. It reminds me of the concept of divide and conquer.
And let's not forget the chicks ;)
All that being said though sometimes people just want to create a better and more satisfying way of living. Ain't nothing wrong with that. Is there?
