    About the Theology board

Would a discussion on neurotheology fit into the scope of the Theology board?

    Designing a New Religion

In short the place I would like to end up is in a healthy, happy, peaceful, prosperous, stable and sustainable society. Of course sustainable in conjunction with the rest is the tricky part. And while the details laid out in Transparency/Nirmaladtha don't necessarily get us there some of the...

    Try a new religion!

This is the year 2009 after all. In this age no one would suggest that you blindly follow in your parents footsteps by taking up their profession. Why should it be any different with religion? Just as one might tryout or investigate different careers to see which one they liked most so might...

Stick with the religion you were born with??

But since the Catholic church defines faith in its religion as exclusive to other religions doesn't that just make you simply a Buddhist or some sort of Hindu?

    Try a new religion!

Perhaps it is a good idea to tryout a new religion. It might be the only real way to learn about other religions, other people and thus the world around us. It could also lead us to a deeper understanding of our current religion or the religion of our parents.

    Designing a New Religion

This question has been addressed previously in this thread. Back then I said: Besides what's so wrong with exercising a bit of creativity in this field? What's wrong with something like: Transparency/Nirmaladtha ???? Not everyone was raised with a religious tradition and some were raised...

    Designing a New Religion

I was looking for something more specific than this. How does one given model of the Christian Godhead get people to behave better than any other model of the Godhead? Well it did seem that Art's original comment wasn't particularly related to the subject of this thread but was rather a thinly...

    Designing a New Religion

As to all this talk about Jesus Christ, the body, flesh and spirit how does it get folks to behave as better and more altruistic people? Also isn't the origin of the word "soma" from a entheogenic plant juice consumed by early Hindu Brahmins? How did it get hooked up with some sort of Christian...

Surrender to the interactive optimization of the Universe. Resistance is futile. You have been optimized.

    Designing a New Religion

Apparently you're right. It is a lifestyle choice: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mod_(lifestyle) Wouldn't have looked this up if you hadn't mentioned it but it was interesting to learn that mod culture gave rise to the skinheads. Oi!

    Designing a New Religion

Seattle, You said that due to "quantum" restraints it was impossible to draw a perfectly straight line which is why one would assume that you were referring to the mathematical definition of a straight line. What else could you mean? Also I didn't say define "perfect" as an ongoing process but...

    Designing a New Religion

I disagree with your semantics. A line that you draw is not a line. By mathematical definition lines are imaginary. What you draw is perfectly what it is which is not an imaginary geometric line but a real representation of a line segment which is perfect in and of itself unless it is drawn...

    Designing a New Religion

Visualizing the Universe as perfect where perfection is defined as an ongoing process whilst simultaneously bolstering a belief in God to get people to behave better than they would otherwise.

    Designing a New Religion

Again I don't necessarily disagree with what you are saying I just think that it is not what I was getting at.

    Designing a New Religion

Well it would be a book like the Bible or the Koran only more up-to-date.

    Designing a New Religion

Sure. Why not? Not that I disagree but I don't think that is exactly what I was getting at.

    Designing a New Religion

How you are linking a lack of awe at the process of cause and effect with not being consistent with science? I don't understand. I don't think that I am taking the wonderment out of cause and effect. I just don't see any wonderment there to begin with. You might just as well stand in awe at...

You are right. I apologize that it has taken me so long to get this straight. I stand corrected.
